Extended warranty?
Extended warranty?
How is going to get the extended warranty when buying your new RDX? Is there a online dealer that offer extended warranties? I was able to get my wife an extended warranty for her 2018 CRV online for 1200 as opposed to what the dealer was offering 2400.
There are online options - probably the same place you got yours would also sell one for the RDX. I personally suggest you take the $$$ you are going to spend on the warranty and put it in a service account for the car. That way you are guaranteed to get use out of the money rather than betting your car has issues during the warranty period. You have to think about it, if the warranty company paid out more than they took in, they would fold quickly.
Warranties are always marked up at least 100%. Back in 2010 I was able to get a $1200 warranty for $600 at my dealer. I put about 18K on my car each year. So I’m out of warranty on miles much earlier than years.
I have never purchased an extended warranty for my vehicles, appliances etc. and never will. Just put the money in your pocket and use that if needed. If a vehicle/ appliance is unreliable enough to need an extended waranty, you really need to consider another option. Most issues if any should occur during the manufacturers warranty.

Acura Care kicks in after the 4/50 basic, 6/70 power-train, and after any future extended warranties offered by Acura. My 08 RDX had an A/C compressor and 11 MDX magnetic shock/struts 100K factory extended warranty added later in the model run and I used the A/C compressor warranty way after the 4/50k expired. You might only have between 70,000 -100,000 miles for +$2000 worth of issues to happen. I did Acura Care $2390 5yr/120k warranty on my 11 MDX because of my magnetic shocks/struts. I got the warranty because my fronts failed at 35k. My rear shocks just failed and replaced at the 105k service. I also had to replaced both front seat heaters under Acura Care a few years ago. I got lucky (or unlucky) to break even with my Acura Care Warranty.
Good thing about Acura Care is:
- you can purchase out of state on-line and it can save you more if no sales tax are applied (Florida residence have to purchase local for some reason)
- cancel and get a refund for unused warranty period
- transfer to new owner if you sell early
- can purchase Acura Care anytime as long as the 4/50 basic is still active
- can purchase Acura Care for an used Acura as long as the 4/50 basic is still active
- Acura Care info goes into Acura database for all dealerships
I would stay away from 3rd Party or Acura dealership endorsed 3rd party extended warranties. Those can have restrictions that might limit you like:
- must do all service at a particular dealership,
- no refund if you sell,
- only good at these shops
- only good in these states

This is good to know. The only solid benefit, I see, as far as an Acura extended warranty, is, if one sells, or trades the car, prior to the expiration of that warranty. Buying a 90K plus used car, with an existing warranty, would certainly be my preference, and I would be willing to pay more, for such a vehicle! Manufacturer"s extended warranty programs, Yay, All others, NAY!
