email from Acura about software update
On Dec 14, I got an email from Acura:
There were instructions for how to go about updating the software which I followed, but it says the system is up to date.
Does that mean all is good?
Anyone else get this email?
Thank you for being a valued AcuraLink1 customer. An important system update will be available for your Acura within the next two weeks and requires your action.
Wireless providers are terminating the 3G network that supports AcuraLink and WI-FI Hotspot services on February 22, 2022. As a result, your vehicle needs an Over the Air (OTA) software update so your services can work on the LTE network.
If you do not update your vehicle prior to February 22, 2022, important features such as Emergency Call, Remote Commands, Amazon Alexa Skill, as well as other security and convenience features including WI-FI Hotspot, will no longer work.1
Without the update, Automatic Collision Notification will not function. If your airbag deploys or a significant collision is detected, your vehicle will be unable to contact an operator to request that emergency services be sent to you.
After February 22, 2022, services can only be restored by visiting an authorized dealer and paying for a new embedded cellular device.

Same here, just got this email a few days ago and I have already done the update weeks ago on my 2019 RDX Advanced. I dont have any pending updates on the system.
Not necessarily. Plenty of people get that message without ever being updated. It gets rolled out in phases. Seems like older models get it first and Canadians get it last.
You have to go in to the Settings and make sure you're at D.1.6.2.

It is a little confusing, because your thinking...is this a different update than the one I did? Acura could do a better job in how they communicate this.

Thanks. I just checked and my car is indeed at D.1.6.2.
I got both a letter and an email on this. I went through the steps and it came back with a message that my system is up to date. I did the update earlier, but wanted to make sure that this was not standard in that it did not illuminate the orange icon on the home screen. The instructions did not even say to check for the orange icon. Not to be picky, perhaps a career in software development and documentation has made me a little jaded, but it would be better if the documentation said what level has the support needed and how to verify (i.e. D1.6.2 displayed under system settings). Acurazine is a great place to get info, but it would be best practices to actually include a verification statement from the manufacturer in the letter sent out.

So when john j consumer crashes his rdx and no emergency call goes out (or walk into dealer summer 2022 and wonders why its a few hundred dollar invoice)they can say
we sent the driver 5 notices and they didnt action them
I just received letter dated Dec 15th. This is the wife's car, but I recently did an update that I thought was for the Entertainment/Nav system. Today I connected the car the house Wi-Fi and it checked for updates and it said there were none. When I try and read the QR code I get an error. Typed the address in and get a no permission error. Called Acuralink twice, got the Customer Care number the second time 888 528-7672. They said I had the last version, D.1.6.2. I said not the question. I said the question is D.1.6.2 the 3G update version and why is that information not in the letter.
They went to the trouble to write a letter that shouts BOLD but don't include a version number.
IMO Acura is a want-a-be luxury car maker. Their NAV and other systems are glitchy at best. Customer Care is amateur hour.

It's the nature of our economy. When smart people can make more money flipping stocks, real estate, and crypto, why would they want to work?
same here, 3rd email… threatening language also with “action required” and has my vin number. This literally makes me doubt myself if Update did not work. They should be able to see which VINs updated and which one did not, and only target the ones without update… so annoying

These are blanket emails and mailings to cover the issue or claim you did not warn me of the 3G cell change.
I have a heart pace maker download device that works on the 3G ……….I have received 10 notices ( mail, email, text and phone calls ) that it will not work after FEB 2022. They sent me a new device. I had to call to get the device activated………they sent 2 more notices after activation warning of the coming changes. So yes……..everyone is a little paranoid.

.The other side of getting owners to pay attention to any instruction or request ………in major recall getting owners to come in or do the change 50% compliance is a lot. Which means in the 3G update 50% of the owners ( 100 of thousands) on good day will actually do what the notices are saying.
A very small fraction of the owners are on forums. Some forum owners are more technical than the general public. My wife asked me many time what the flag means on the update button. There’s is no way she would attempt to do the update or understand why or what’s needed. She is most likely a general representative of the owners. So yes……your likely to get 2-5 more notices of the need to update.

really?? You can keep a database that has version number for each VIN. When you install update, after successful install, the Infotainment pushes version number that gets stored in the database. You only send threatening emails and letters to those that still have not upgraded or there is no information in database because user has chosen not to share data. It can be done, all automated. This is not rocket science.

They way it could work is after completing a successful update, car would send a message to Acura server and say “I am VIN # and running 1.6.2”, this info gets stored in database.
The confusion after threatening emails with “ACTION REQUIRED” will result in some people calling customer support or contacting dealer because they are not sure why they got the email after doing the update. More time wasted for everyone including Acura, all could have been avoided with a simple automation.
