CD available on new RDX ?

I was wondering if the RDX will have a CD player ? I know many autos these days are not including them. From the pics, it is hard to tell. I guess I'm old fashion, but still like to play my CD's, and not really ready to give them up yet.

Unless it's hidden in the glove box or center console you're out of luck because it's definitely not on the dash. CD players have been dying for a long time and considering some model Honda's don't have them I am sure Acura is ready to follow suit. Why spend extra money for a feature nobody will use?

I guess there is only room for an 8 track in the glove box, so, I expect no CD.

There are still plenty of cars that offer the CD still, but it certainly won't be a deal breaker for me. I can listen at home. 8 tracks...wow, haven't seen them for years LOL

I can't remember the last time I played a CD. To this date, I don't even know if the CD player in my TLX works.

My 2016 RDX has a single disc CD player. I think I used it 2 or 3 times when I first got the car just to test it out. Haven't used it since in over two years! I think it still has a Queen album in it. LOL. I basically use the XM satellite or MP3s on a USB stick. A simple 8GB USB can literally hold hundreds and hundreds of songs. Maybe even thousands. So convenient and the sound is so much better than the XM. If you truly want to play your CDs just record them to a USB and play them that way.

According to the post in the audio section, it does not have a disc player.

I wonder if it will be possible to connect an external optical drive to the USB port and play discs that way.

I wonder why, in practice, a flash drive is not better. Assuming the flash drive interface is acceptable, once loaded up properly, you could leave the entire music library plugged in, and not bother messing with disks. I keep a CD in my '08 car but I have never played one in my '14 car.

I think that I used the CD player a few times in my 07TL, but I do love the cassette player that came with it. I keep a couple of old Grateful Dead bootleg cassettes just for old time sake. Now everything is digital so just dump the whole library onto the hard drive or USB and go.

When I had my last MDX (2010), the ES system could download to the hard drive any CD that I played. Still capable of doing this?

I put a CD in the player when I got the vehicle, recorded it to the internal hard drive, and then forgot the music was even on there for a year and a half. I put all my music on a memory stick at the same time. It's been installed the entire 2 years I've had the vehicle and maybe used twice. XM or streaming from the phone is what I use now.

I’ve never played a music CD in my entire life. That’s being 100% dead honest. CD’s were phased out by the time I was a teenager so never bothered with it. But my older bro has a ton of CD’s with burnt music on them.

You are making me feel old RDX10.

My dad and I would jam out to Earth, Wind and Fire on the 8-track when I was a kid. That is when you had to take your time and "cruise" the main drag because you had to wait until the 8-track flipped over to listen to the same song twice. I wonder how long it will be before the next generation of kids are making fun of us with flashdrive memory sticks, Bluetooth streaming, and internet radio.

Making me feel old too. CDs revolutionized the music industry as the biggest breakthrough since Edison's phonograph a century before. I still like the idea of the jewel case and liner notes. Though to be honest, I do use Sirius XM in the car a lot more. Oh well.

HAHA...I guess that makes three of us feeling old LOL . I shouldn't have started this thread, but there are new cars that still have CD players

Anyone know how the navigation would be updated without a disc player? They're all updated with discs currently I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My wife and I own a bunch of CDs. We may be old fashioned, but we like owning our music and don't want to 'rent it' again when we already own the disc. The CD in the TLX burns the tracks to the hard drive and creates a library in the car so you can play them after you remove the CD. It would have been nice to have this ability on future Acura models but I can understand why it is going away.

Probably USB flash drive. DVD only holds about 9GB and 16-32GB flash drives are pretty cheap now.

Ya... I just use iTunes on my iPhone and play my music via BT. However, I purchased an updated Navigation maps disc on my '17 RDX and needed the CD drive to install. :o

Haha I’m really sorry guys. If it helps I can remember having to roll up the windows in my dads cars as a kid. I do also remember my parents had cassette tapes and we’d play VCR tapes for movies. Haha taking it way back for myself here.

I think Acura should offer a CD player as an option if anything. Chrysler makes it a $200 option and while I think that’s stupid to charge for something that is basically included on many cars, it’s better than not offering it at all and also makes it more comfortable for non-millenial folks. There is certainly room under that floating center console area.

Anyone tell me if I'm wrong here...but, the CD drive in the Audio System is not where the Navi was updated. Used to be a "unit" in the trunk under the deck on non SUV's...not even sure on SUV's. Obviously I don't update
my Navi!! LOL! I hardly ever use it. So, with no CD drive....good question on updating. Will the '19 be the first Acura in a long time to not have a CD drive? Seems like it.
I've used the CD drives often in my Acura's to dump quality music to the hard drive.

A flash drive holds much more data and can do everything a CD or DVD can do. If they use a 3.0 USB port, data transfer is very fast.

Maybe there's a one CD player in the glove compartment?

My 3G TL did in fact have a DVD navigation drive in the trunk but my 4G TLs and the TLX do use the in dash CD for navigation updates.

I would think there would be, but then again the CD is a dead platform so it’s possible it’s gone.

I was talking to the service manager last week about the 3rd Gen RDX and he said it is suppose to have wifi hotspot capabilities. That might be an option for updating the Navi system? It would be nice to have a subscription and you can update every time an update is available several times a year OR download more detailed 3D maps of a certain area. Acura is pretty good about keeping details to themselves until the release date.

Acura will have to allow the ELS system to read and store more formats on the hard drive if they delete the CD reader. I wouldn't complain one bit if I could import my entire iPhone music library into the RDX's hard drive just like my phone contacts. That would take care of me and my CD collection.

Wow CD player? I have a 3G TL with the multidisc CD player. I haven't used mine since I got an iPod in 2005. I have iSimple connection and just play Pandora off my iPhone. I don't own a CD anymore.
