Canada specifics

This is the place to gather the information related to the 'Acura Canada' versions (equipment, trims, prices, etc) and to discuss why we pay so much more just to get some folding mirrors.

My bigger disappointment is the limited availability of exterior and interior colours in Canada. I want most of the options offered by Acura, so I will probably go with Platinum Elite. My two last car was red and I don't like black interior colour. The red (Performance Red Pearl) is available only with the A-spec trim and the interior is black (Ebony Leather with Alcantara insert). For the Platinum Elite trim, if I want Parchment colour, I will have to choose between White or Black exterior colour. I could also choose Greystone Leather with Gunmetal Metallic, but that's all. The other exterior colour for the Platinum Elite is Lunar Silver, Obsidian Blue or Canyon Bronze, and for all of them, the leather is black.

WHAT??? Seriously???

A-spec only with black interior???

Who wants a grey interior? My grandfather?

And black... Like in the 80s.

Do you know if the official information is somewhere on the internet?

About two weeks ago, a salesman of a dealership shows me a copy of a sheet of exterior and interior colours and for each trim. And about A-Spec, there is other interior colours than Ebony, but not with the red exterior colour. For the A-spec, the combination are the followings:

Exterior colours Interior A-spec
White diamond Ebony OR Red
Lunar Silver Ebony only
Majestic Black Ebony OR Red
Modern Steel Ebony OR Red
Apex Blue Ebony only
Performance Red Ebony only

He also said that the price would be around 1K$ more than the actual model.
And by the way, I will maybe choose the greystone leather, and you're right because I am probably almost as old as your grandfather ;-)

That sucks we can't get Apex Blue with red. That was my first choice. Second choice is white with red, and third is modern steel with red.

Those colours seem very limited so Im wondering how accurate that info was. Heres a PDF from my dealer with Canadian info.

I just googled Active Control Dampers. Does this shit really work? Sounds like a superior technology to air suspension.

According to the PDF in your post, we can’t get an RDX A-spec Elite like we can with the TLX? Well that’s pretty disappointing. Guess I won’t be buying one after all.

Is there a US equivalent of the "Platinum Elite" trim here? I wonder what the "Platinum Elite" wheels would look like?

Yes, I am concerned that there is no A-Spec Elite model, like my TLX!!! YIKES!!!!

The A-Spec does have the features I do like in my current MDX and TLX, like the the vent seats, and better stereo. The HUD and the dampers I can prob do without. I dunno, but personally, options Ive never had before I could kind of care less about. I just dont want to loose many features Im used too. An A-Spec Plat Elite would prob be over $60k lol.

$60,000 Canadian for an A-spec Platinum Elite sounds pretty reasonable, actually. I’d get one in a heartbeat. But will they make them that way, that’s the question I guess.

I heard from another thread that the RDX maxes out at $55k CAD? It's a big jump from the current top trim - Elite - which is at $46.5k. Not saying it's not worth the money as I think it's good to see the RDX offering some truly high end features and materials.

I wish the A-spec is a package, not a trim. Does any one know what the bolt pattern is for the new RDX? If it's 5x114.3, I can just reuse my current aftermarket rims on my 1g RDX lol.

That's a big jump indeed but it's not impossible. A fully equipped QX50 is $59,000 (CAD).

And there is still a 10,000$ gap between that and a well equipped MDX (65,000$ CAD quite easily). The base MDX is 56,000$ and it doesn't have all the technology included in the base RDX.

I'd be seriously bummed if the red seats aren't available on the A-spec as that's the trim I'm most interested in and I don't want black leather. I'm looking at the XC60 and C300 wagon and in both case I'm opting for white/grey as the interior colour.

I just compared the Canadian Platinum Elite trim to the US Advance trim, and it seems that these items are missing in the US Advance trim:

1. Full colour head-up display
2. Adaptive front headlights
3. 2nd row HVAC control

Unless they are just not listing everything in the US spec sheet, these are pretty significant differences.... but it also appears that some of the US Advance model features are only found in the Canadian Platinum Elite trim too, such as rear camera washer, and real wood accents.

So it seems that the Canadian Platinum Elite trim has the most contents, followed by the US Advance trim, and then the Canadian Elite trim... what a strange way to package these trims!!!

Canadian A-Spec gets heated steering wheel. That makes sense given our climate!

It is so strange that the Canadian A Spec and Elite would get heated steering wheel, whereas the US Advance would get heated steering wheel but not US A-Spec!!!

Not really, when you consider the QX50 is breaking the 60k mark.

I agreed!

But QX50 is a joke...I highly doubt anyone will pay for that trim. People will go for Germans. For Acura and Infiniti $50-55K CDN (tax in) is the sweet spot!

The base trim is $44k. You get a lot for this price.
The Tech adds several great options for $2,500. the most interesting are the security features (blind spots info system, cross traffic monitor, rain sensing wipers, F/R parking sensors)
The Elite adds mostly comfort features, for another 3,500$.
The A-SPEC, includes the heated steering wheel (great in Canada), plus the 16 spkrs 3D audio and ventilated FR seats, otherwise only available in the Platinum. For $3,800 more than the Tech.
The Platinum adds the HUD, 16 way prw seats, adaptative headlights, surround view cameras, active control dampers, but this will cost you $4,700...

For comparison: The Q5 starts at $45k. The Technik S-Line with comfort and security options is $59,700. The similar Progressiv is $55,750.

Tech is a pretty good sweet spot. The more I look at the specs, I think I will be happy with the A-Spec. In fact, it has most of what my 2016 TLX Elite has. Only thing missing compared to my TLX are puddle lamps, headlight washers, auto-dimming side mirrors, heated rear seats and premium leather. Speaking of seating surfaces, does the Tech & A-Spec come with leatherette or leather?

In Canada, Base and Tech come with leatherette. For A-spec, it is leather with Alcantara insert.

I don’t understand why Acura thinks A-spec buyers don’t want the Platinum Elite features (other than the wood accents). It’s just so ridiculous.

As per above post, red leather is offered in the White, Black, and Modern Steel exterior colours.

I think it's more a question of market testing to determine the majority of buyer wants and price points. The more versions you produce, the higher your production costs tend to be without a significant demand for a particular trim. Whether they hit the nail on the head is a different matter. I would also suggest that this could change in a year or two if the RDX is quite successful and market demand suggests a Platinum A-Spec would sell. Keep in mind they already sell a lot of RDXs that don't have an ASpec package, some of whom they will lose as customers because they don't have a 6 cylinder option. Just as an aside, I think the non ASpec versions are also very nice looking vehicles and will likely make up a significant chuck of their sales. If I was in the market and wanted all those features, the Elite or Platinum would likely be my choices, although there is still a lot of content in the ASpec, such as the 16 speaker system. Give me that over HUD, real wood, etc any day...IMHO.

Do you by chance know if A-spec and Elite models all come with remote start and walk-away auto lock?

Agreed!

Based on pricing and features, I have a feeling A-Spec will be one of their best seller. At least for CDN market, the price seems reasonable. The Advance and Platinum seems a bit high to me.
Even Alex on Auto mentions on his Facebook page, that "when you factor in the standard equipment and standard performance, it's a pretty darn good deal over the NX and QX. I'd say the RDX has a pretty good shot at maintaining the "best selling" title even with the price increase over 2018."

man the price jump from Elite to Platinum Elite is $5k...quite a lot of money. But for that money, you do get quite a few other features...
HUD
16 Speaker ELS
16-way seats
Ventilated Front Seats
Adaptive front headlights
Surround View Cam
Back up cam washer
LED Fog Lights
Real Wood
2nd-row temp control

HUD --> Cool but I can live without
16 Speaker ELS --> Required. Music feeds the soul. Included on the A-TECH
16-way seats --> No problem, my shape is quite standard, 12 way is more than enough.
Ventilated Front Seats -> Required. They're cool. Literally. LOL. I want those. Included on the A-TECH
Adaptive front headlights --> I should survive without
Surround View Cam --> I can live without
Back up cam washer --> Nice but not a necessity
LED Fog Lights --> Pretty useless
Real Wood -> I don't want any wood in my car. LOL
2nd-row temp control -> I survived without that when I was a kid...

So for me the A-SPEC is good. $50k is already a good pile of money.

I agree with your points. The only item I wished Acura tossed into the A-Spec is the Adaptive Dampers. Had it on a BMW X3 and it really transformed the way the vehicle drove in the corners. Granted, the X3 has a rear-bias with near 50/50 weight distribution, so I wouldn't expect the RDX to out handle an X3.
