Weathertech vs. OEM all-season rubber mats

Hi,

I just picked up my new MDX today and very pleased so far

We`d like to keep the car pristine and with the weather here we need rubber mats. Has anyone ordered the weathertech for 2014? They do not appear to have the second or third row mats available yet.

My dealer is selling a 1st, 2nd and cargo tray set for $377, whereas weathertech wants nearly $300 for first row and cargo, no 2nd row (plus shipping and border fees).

Any views on which way to go?

Thanks!

I ordered a set of Weathertech front liners and it looks like they should be delivered tomorrow. Those are the only mats I use as they really do fit perfectly.

I got the mats in yesterday but wasn't able to put them in until after dinner. Sorry so dark, I'll get more pics in the day this weekend.

Those look great. I bit the bullet and bought the expensive 1st and 2nd row weathertech liners from their canadian website, cost me $235 plus taxes.

I also bought an Acura OEM folding cargo tray from a US based dealer on eBay, for $110.

Expensive... but hopefully worth it.

Now looking for winter tires and rims!

The weather tech are probably excellent, but as Ive posted before the OEM are also excellent cost less and look better. Unless you work for a construction company, the OEMs are probably the best choice. I had a family visit, so our X was a seven passenger vehicle for ten days. We used it as a daily shuttle for skiing tubing and snowshoeing, the OEM mats took it all in stride.

Seekr, congrats on the new purchase.

We have Weathertech digitalfit liners in our MDX and LOVE them. I wouldn't go any other way.

My dealer is selling a 1st, 2nd and cargo tray set for $377
I'm assuming the quote above is for factory mats. That's pretty steep in my book. For me, factory mats would have to be substantially cheaper than the Weathertechs for me to choose them.

As for the unavailability of the Weathertech 2nd row mats, give it a few months and I'm sure they'll be available.

Good luck...

Why doesn't the above mat cover the area underneath the "parking brake foot pedal", where most people will rest their left foot on ?

The factory front driver mat has the entire carpet area covered.

I ended up cancelling my weathertech mat order as they said it would be another 2-3 weeks before they arrived.

I bought a full set of first/second row OEM mats on ebay for $115, including shipping. much more economical. Also got the folding cargo tray for $110. Not bad, I'm looking forward to receiving the mats in the mail.

Thanks for all your posts and suggestions!

The Weathertech is covering the dead pedal, look at the picture again and you will see that it ends just under the parking brake.

A silly question: do I remove the original floor mats before installing the all-season mats?

The weathertech mats are by far the best. I live close to the factory in the IL suburbs and picked them up today. Quality and fit is perfect. No way the carpet will ever see any dirt or water.

Weather Tech is definately the way to go. I bought OEM and my wife has weathertech in her Lexus and I regret going OEM. I live in Chicago and the snow is brutal! her weathertechs do an amazing job retaining the melted snow from getting around the matted spaces.

I got the WTech, because they go up the sides much further than the stock, and cover that left side of the drivers footwell so much higher. They installed in 30 seconds.

I only wish WTech offered a hinged cargo tray as well.

I have had the OEM all weather mats for a few months now and i'm not happy with the front protection. There are many gaps and dirt and debris gets under the mat. I've seen the Weathertechs up close and they offer much more protection. I've placed my order for just the front two as we get more traffic there.

I just received the rear floorliner for the MDX (store shipped the rear only instead of front and rear set). The material is very thin in my opinion (guessing since it's a liner, and not an all-weather floormat...didn't think about that when I purchased). I didn't get to see the Acura OEM all-weather floormats so can't do a fair comparison. In hindsight, I probably should have just purchased the Acura OEM All-Weather floormats based on the cost.

I checked back on Weathertech's site and it looks like they do offer fitted versions of the all-weather floormat, but NOT for the 2014/2015 MDX.

Does the big rear mat (after the 2nd row) fit nicely? What happens when you slide the second row forward/back? Is there a noticeable gap?

I got the Weathertech for the wife's MB, but when I got the MDX I got a good price on the Acura all weather mats and went with them.

I am considering ordering a set of the Weathertechs for the front - actually if I could just get the drivers side, that would be perfect.

The big miss with the OEM is that it does not cover the dead peddle.

The weather tech can be slippery, but it does a much better job of protecting the carpet…at least in areas where you drag snow and salt into the car. If it is just for rain or less than an inch (2.5cm) of snow, the OEM would be great.

Can you show me where you are finding this? I know they offer the fitted front/2nd row/3rd row for the liners, but not for the all-weather mats.

thx for the info CLpower! I keep my 2nd row all the way back and i was worried it might not fit properly. Went ahead and ordered the cargo mat.

I've had my front and 2nd row Weathertech floor liners for about two weeks now and im loving them so far. The fit is just perfect and it covers everything!

The OEM mats are pretty good. However compared to weathertech floor liners its no contest. The weather tech mats, on the other hand, are no better than the OEM ones.
Weathertech floor liners are simply awesome.

BTW I posted on this last year but went with the floor liners after having to clean too much salt off the carpet in spring Hindsight is 20/20!

Can't speak to weather tech, but I got the acura winter mats for my RLX and they fit, look and work great. The dealer was kind enough to order and sell me them at cost, just under $100. Not sure if the mdx mats are same design, material and supplier. This was a "deal" compared to oem mats from bmw, jag, Maserati and others.

Can anyone send me a link to the OEM rubber all weather mats? the dealer wants $500 for 1st, 2nd, 3rd row and the cargo. I think it's too expensive. My wife's oddysey has the OEM rubber all weather and i love them so looking for the exact same type of material for my MDX 2020. Thank you.

Compare quality/prices the 3D MAXpider, OEM, and Weather tech mats. I did the Maxpider rear cargo mat for my 11 MDX and it was huge improvement over OEM. My 19 MDX came with OEM mats and stuck with them.

I have the weathertech in our 2019 hybrid advance in the front seats, high sides are nice, fit is nice. However they do not allow the throttle to fully open. Found that out when I tried to put the car in "maintenace mode" when doing a transmission fill, which requires incantations including pushing the throttle wide open with engine off. couldn't get it to do it, pulled the mats, problem solved. keeps about the last 1/8" of travel. not really an issue normally,
