Question about B16 message on 2015 MDX

I have a 2015 MDX and getting message "maintenance due soon B16".

The vehicle only has 11,250 miles and I have changed the oil before.

Is the vehicle truly "smart" enough to know the oil needs changed or is this message just based on a specific number of miles driven?

Please let me know. Thanks.

Yes. There is a complex algorithm that the car uses. It takes into account engine turnover, conditions, revs, etc.

Follow the MID. Everyone's mileage interval will vary based on how the car is driven. Lots of highway equates to slightly longer intervals. Up to 7500-8000 miles. More mixed driving will get 6000 mi intervals. Your next differential service will be around 40k mi.

Basically, read the manual.

I've followed the MID for both of my Acuras...no issues.

Hi all,

First time poster here. Have had my '15 MDX AWD Tech for just over a year, and the B16 MIL popped up yesterday at about 11.5K miles.

Called around some Acura and Honda dealers in the NoVA area and have received quotes between $260 and $400 depending on the stealership.

If anyone has experience with the B16 in NoVA and can share a recent estimate, or recommend a dealership/independent shop to do the work, I'm all ears. I'm not particularly enamored by the concept of dealership service since they are typically priced for the ignorant customer that simply obliges and pays up without asking too many questions.

FWIW - I used to/occasionally take all my other cars to Currys Auto, but they've gone downhill in the past 3 years, esp. with the acquisition by Mr. Tire.

TIA, and I look forward to being a part of this active community!

You can do it yourself, it is very simple and easy. Once you located both Drain/Fill Plugs. You are good to go.

Good luck.

I did my B16 service at 11.9k this past weekend. Dealer wanted 189.00. I did it myself, in about an hour. I do, have (and suggest to all who do their own maintenance) a Mityvac pump. I spent about 81.00 in all fluids and filter (and replacement crush washers), so 189.00 isn't horrible, I just wasn't giving it up. 260-400 bucks? Not happening.

Hi Pickettt,

Which model do you own? I have 2016/Tech AWD.
Rear Differential Fluid>I noticed previous models the Fill/Drain Plugs are right next to each other (Top & Bottom). Seen 2016 model they moved the Drain Plug to the other side. Can you confirm it is the right place? I did mine but wasn't sure lol.

The cheapest way to get service done is to ask for just an oil change and diff change, not the B16 service.

Although our MDX is FWD, I just performed its first oil change for $39 at the dealership. The A1 service would be a lot more, and it includes a bunch of visual inspections and a tire rotation which I can get done for free.

Mine is a 2015 Advance SH-AWD. My fill and drain plugs are above and below. From the linked pictures, you have correctly identified the 2016's fill and drain plugs.
