2014 MDX is here!

as far as MPG goes i just broke 100 miles and it is slightly higher than my 2G...was about 17 mpg.....not counting the hour+ or so ive spent messing around with the electronics idling in the driveway...and thats local 30mph, stop and go traveling. taking roadtrip tomorrow so interested to see the highway MPG's..

I just picked my AWD-Advance White/Eucalyptus! Happy with the car, but sad for what I ended up paying (MSRP sigh..) MDX 2014 sells well. One MDX Tech pack was being sold when I was writing the application. This dealership sold 6 MDXes so far.
Here are some pictures in front of my home.
The eucalyptus color is more gray; very subtle green color. We prefer a darker color as we have young children.
Keep it mind. This MDX can't do the magic of JX: Folding 2nd seat and accessing 3rd row with a carseat. MDX can't
AAC w/ slow flow does work very well in a 35mpg road. Will leave for 100 mile trip right now. Will report real-world mpg.

^How did I not see the sunshade feature. I may wait to even think about buying one, maybe when the refresh comes along.
this is my future SUV that I wish to own. Still in college about 1yr. left for BA then off to get a Masters(2 yrs). People always tell me why I want a family SUV, even though I am single and have none of those home/children responsibilities. The new MDX is just awesome and a winner, but it definitely needs accessories to look right.
Please new owners, post more pictures or short vids, as their are small number of auto reviews.

TLBullet it's ok, I can still tell the wax is great stuff. Car's shinin!
The MDX on the acura website (the MDX page) is silver with accessories and it's beautiful! This MDX is going to be the company's best selling vehicle again.
Printf beautiful MDX. Unfortunately though everyone will be paying MSRP or close to it for awhile. That's typical of redesign or new models. Dealers aren't willing to negotiate much on a hot commodity. They know it'll sell and the numbers don't lie.

In NC the personal property tax(vehicle tax) was due three months after registration renewal. As of this month it is now due the same time as registration renewal. My last bill, for 2013, my tsx was valued at $14,110 and I had to pay $90.58 which was Pender County 0.512000 per $100 value= $72.24, Pender EMS 0.065000=$9.17 and SLP Fire 0.065000=$9.17. How high are your rates. In the counties that require emissions it is due every year along with the safety inspections. If you have tint you are charged an additional $10.00 a year. They make sure it is legal.
I just noticed something. The RDX and MDX gets pretty much identical MPGs. FWD is 20/28 (city/hwy) for both models. AWD models are 19/27 (RDX) and 18/27 (MDX). They also have the same size engines (3.5L V6) and I've noticed the MDX is slightly more powerful. Is this the same Earth Dreams motor used in the RDX that's also used in the MDX; just a slightly more powerful in this application?I'm pretty sure I read that the MDX borrowed its motor (Earth Dreams) from the RLX. Can anyone help me out on this one?
Either way, the RDX and MDX siblings are selling very well.
EDIT: Gas tank capacities are also different. 16gals (RDX) and 19.5gals (MDX)

wow that's cheap. personal property tax on the MDX last fall....over $1k. while the TL was~$280.
my dealer has the ~40 '14's, with the rest of the 60 as 2013's. they did have left over '12's but i think the dealer absorbed them (purchased them, and now selling as pre-owned). i noticed some '12's on their used car listings with less than 20 miles on them. it was maybe 4-5.
the gas tank shrunk. 2G has a 21 gallon tank.

And with a smaller full tank, there is less overall weight which helps fuel economy out some, and the more efficient engine doesn't need more gas to go X amount of miles.

Congrats on your purchase! Beautiful car and color. Do you mind taking more pictures of the interior showing the color? The dealerships here do not have eucalyptus and only parchment on the white exterior.
The wife does not want any green, but I think it's subtle enough not to stand out. Would have been happy with graystone. Thanks.

To Clubhops10: I also thought this was a sort of green color, but I and my wife don't think this is any significant green. It just has a subtle green hue. I will post more interior pictures tomorrow. It's dark already

A short report for real-world milage: AWD/Advance with 2 adults and 2 young kids. No big luggage.
We just returned home after a short 110 miles trip: Cupertino to San Francisco (Crissy Field nearby Golden Gate), which has 80 miles highway (mostly winding, uphill, downhill), and 40 miles of 35mph stop&go heavy downtown traffic. The mpg was 22.8 mpg.
I believe driving a flat and straight highway would give 27 mpg as EPA numbers.
LKAS and AAC are really worthy. LKAS tries to keep the vehicle in the lane by slightly rotating steering. It can't give a full turn in a severely winding road, but quite works well in a typical highway. My first impression was "very funny". Driver's effort to keep the lane is minimize. Sweet feature. LKAS + AAC should be good friends in a very long trip. AAC sometimes can't give a smooth braking in a city traffic (35mph).
Most of all, my kids super loved the entertainment system... I hooked my iPhone 5 with lightning to HDMI cable. The wireless headphone was just far from BOSE headphone, but it DOES the job.

My review
Came to dealer on Thursday. Sold 11 until today
Dad is thinking to trade moms 07 MDX and his friend is thinking to trade his Pilot. (Not sure yet)
3.7(300hp) to 3.5 (290hp)
but 0-60 is faster
400lbs reduced from the car
Direct Injection plays big role on the performance as well
Friend there, told me because of DI, MPG got +6 on hwy, and +3 in city. Not sure didn't check numbers nor read the thread yet
I loved the ticking sounds from the motor because of the direct injection. Don't know if anyone noticed it but diesel people from Europe will love it.
Car is smaller inside, narrower. I am comparing to 07 model one, the one before.
BUT!!! because you sit lower inside the car (car is lower), can't really notice inside is narrower.
+
Car being lower improved the handling.
White and blue is the popular one here.
As in interior, gray.
Because unlike the others, gray is kind of bright, clean gray.
and floor mats and surroundings are black, which fits perfectly and much more better for long term (cleaning wise)
Back of the car did get narrower for sure. Which made the 3rd row kind of smaller in my eye...
but trunk space with all rows are up, got bigger. Kind of narrower but, longer.
No fog lights
I think 2leds that doesn't light up are the high beams
What I liked about the headlights was the DRL
Unlike other cheap looking leds on Audi or Benz, Acura totally did something different
On top of the lens inside the headlights, there is small leds hidden. On top of the square lenses
They light up for DRL, can't see them from the sides.
They are on in this picture
but from front-end, they are pretty bright
Silver on the right and black one has the base rims.
White up there has the nav rims
DRL is on here
--
As far as I know, there are 3 types of rims
Base, Nav, and top model one
Friend was saying, everyone made a joke about the designer when the car came to dealer.
Guessing he mixed up the rims for Nav and top model one
Because Nav has much better rims than the Advance model one
I agree. Loved the middle class rims bettter.
Advance kind of looks like the base one.
I am trying to make my dad not buy it though... guess will not.
We bought the new design MDX in 07, had some problems with it unlike my 06 TL
Now since everything on this MDX is all new design + only good feature to mom that I saw on the car was the 3rd row seats.... nothing else
2 screen is too much for her haha
Could open the back row access with one click but can't close it. Have to push it
Oh and if you see a roof rails on the MDX. That's the Advance upper model one. Was the only easy way to notice for me
+ rims if you remember the details
They said side steps will be something different, unlike the old ones but I don't know didn't see it

I believe there's technically 4 trim levels. Base, Tech, Tech w/ ent pkg, and Advance w/ ent pkg. Each level can be had in FWD or AWD, so I guess I guess "technically" 8 trim levels.
Meeks thank's for posting that pic about the LED DRLs. I always wondered where they were at, I knew they were there. BTW your parents can get LED fogs installed. It's an accessory. BTW MPGs are 20/28 (FWD) and 18/27 (AWD) [city/hwy]. Pretty sure the parents will like that nice increase in MPGs.
EDIT: I spy, with my vision challenged eyes a Milano Red SE.

Saw an Elite (the Canadian version of Advance) model yesterday - the styling is very nice - more sophisticated and upscale than the 2013 model, but the changes are a bit too subtle - wished that it were a bit more noticeably different from the current model. The third row seat was TINY. Even some kids would find it too tight at the back!
The surround view feature is nice, probably useful for parallel parking, but I am not sure if it's that necessary. Didn't Infiniti already have this feature years ago? But the matt finish of the wood trim inside is NICE. So much better than that glossy stuff!!! I wonder why they would not use it across the board, or make it available in the States.
It is certainly a nicely designed vehicle which would sell like hotcakes. Still, even with the "extra" features mentioned above, it's not worth the extra $10,000 up here in Canada.

Oh, and I forgot to mention - it is VERY annoying that despite the much higher price tag up in Canada, we do NOT get the Eucalyptus interior at all! Just the plain old ebony, graystone and parchment!!!!!!! VERY VERY ANNOYING.
And I really miss the umber interior...........

^ I didn't know that. I was sitting here thinking about long-term reliability with DI. I know it has plagued some other car manufacturers and maybe since Honda is a little late to the game (and is known for reliability) they'll have all the carbon buildup issues worked out with their Earth Dreams motors.

I saw Infiniti q50 in person and it was bright as hell (led fog also)
Let's see what Acura did with led fog
By the way those bumper add-ons for front and rear is like a must. Looks great on the picture
About the MPG, definitely dude
Parents live 20miles north of Boston, mostly highway and mom is averaging 15 MPG
Dads 2011 FX does better...
Yeah there is too much trim which makes me friggen confused but there is 3 types of rims.
Lowest one has 5 spokes
Middle one has 10 spokes, which looks the best to me and people at the dealer
Top one has 7 spokes
By the way, even base model gets 2 screens
Edit: I meant, unlike cheap looking leds like on Benz or Porsche... not Audi
Audi is the one that got copied and Audi did pretty well job with it. Rest just sucks
and I bet Benz noticed the mistake and finally did what they should've done. Orange strip leds
People know Benz for years know that orange parking lights are the history for the Benz.. I mean like, you love it on the car, resembles some beauty. Can't explain it. Benz freaks know it in Europe
Finally they thought about it
http://image.automobilemag.com/f/rev...adlight-on.jpg
So kudos Acura on the headlight...well done

Thanks, Meko, for confirming that the base model has 2 screens. IDK what the purpose of one of them are since it's not a navi. I personally like the look of 5 spoke wheels and would like to see what they look like on the base model before I jump to conclusions.

Well, bottom one is just controls
And top one is for Radio, settings, trip control blah blah you know it...
That's why
I kind of like the base rims as well
You could see them on the last pics I've posted
They look like 18", other ones are 19"
First thing that came to my mind was the ride. I bet it's much stiffer, which is bad for a car like MDX... IMO I dunno
I understand FX but for mom 18", smooth ride is better or for the car we use for long trips to NH ME NY blah blah

Makes sense now. And yeah I did noticed the base wheels in the pics. That's what drew me to them. The wheels that come on tech look nice as well. Either way, this MDX will outsell the rest of the vehicles in the Acura lineup again.

Are the window shades in the back window on tech and advance package automatic or manual?
People that bought the advance package. What features justified spending $6000 over the tech package. Debating between tech and advance.
White seems to be popular color. Wife always likes black cars. Looks like its gonna get dirty fast. How is the graphite metallic color in person?
Waiting on some incentives myself.

My down payment was majority. Only small amount was financed. So, the APR wasn't that important. APR was good (given my short credit history in US).
Overall, right now, it was hard to find a good deal in my area. I already saw an MDX 2014 on the road Unless urgent, one should wait.

Very simple. With the power and light pattern provided by the Jewel Eye lights, they go over and above what any previous HID lamp and foglight combo could provide. No need to use extra weight for extra lighting, wiring, etc. when your new headlamps already perform better. For those that absolutely must have them, foglights can be added.
From what I've seen so far for our clients, with the way the new MDX is designed with the jewel eye LED's and chrome below, no one has yet to even ask for fogs.

I was also hesitated to spend $6000 over the Tech+ENT package, or $8000 over the Tech. So far, I'm happy. LKAS+AAC are really great features. It does work well on a high way. Beyond my expectation. Parking sensors in both front/rear with visual feedback are worthy as well. The low-profile roof rail looks cool. Love it. Lumbar supports are good. Ventilated seats are not that icy, and make noticeable fan noises (when the car is stopped and no AC). But, it keeps me cool pretty well.
I'm still thinking Advance package is expensive. Some breakdowns against Tech+ENT:
(1) A larger screen + HDMI input: $200
(2) Parking sensors (front/rear): $700
(3) Roof rail: $600
(4) Ventilated seats + lumbar + pretension: $700
(5) Sunshade: $200
(6) Better noise/vibration insulation: $200
(7) Remote engine start: $400
(8) Better leather seats: $200
(9) Rear side mirrors: $200
(10) ACC+LKAS+CMBS: $2000
Total: $5400
By the way, I don't find any reason to justify Tech+ENT system as the ENT system in this trim doesn't support HDMI. If you own a lot of DVD, it's good though.
Anyway LKAS+AAC are cool!

Some pictures for Eucalyptus interior color. My wife doesn't like the parchment color as she claims it will be early weathered and dyed. This color at this time was hard to find. Pictures are from iPhone 5. Be aware of the white balance of the camera and your monitor color calibration as well!
I have to admit it reminds me of Venza and a bigger RDX. But, I love the looks. It's more sleek and has more curves.
The cargo space over the 3rd row seats are pretty small. It's not a van.
A perfect combination: An electric car + an SUV.

Accessories and accessory installation is now available! Looks like installing remote start is really simple, just need to bring it to the dealer for them to program the FOB afterwards. LED fog lights looks a little bit more involved.

thanks for the wonderful pictures and nice breakdown of features.
Yeah if no HDMI in the tech with ENT package, i might have to explore after market options for the entertainment system instead, anyone explore that option and just go with the TECH package instead?

A slightly off-topic, but I'd be happy to share my experience with EV. Here South Bay (Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, San Jose) is mostly city driving. Surprised there were so many hybrid cars when I moved to here last year. This time, there is the explosion of EVs: LEAF and Tesla. For me, the commute distance is just 10 miles. All schools and markets are within 10-mile radius and city driving. Many companies provide free charging currently. Also, the cost of the leasing is cheap ($200-$250/month). The cost will be decreased further if you take account the gas saving. LEAF's mpg equivalent is around 100mpg.
