Common to all, is the ability to shift torque rearward under any condition that needs it. As noted, acceleration, going up hills etc.
What is different and changeable is the side to side component. In some, it was locked out in 1st gear, in in some it is a fixed overdrive ratio, in the RL it is a planetary gear allowing ~5% overdrive. In later years, the first gear lockout was removed, and in the old MDX-A Cooperative VSA was added.
Sad to say that in this time, SH-AWD is still a little understood technology by most, and generally underutilized. As evidenced by all the negativity on forums, it has done little to raise the brand value. (IMO)

I've known about SH-AWD being different on each model through out the years. I was making a point of how SH-AWD on the MDX DOES put power to the rear under normal driving. And KeithL is right too.
I was correcting him with the video that showed normal driving. Don't know why you quoted me. I said I was pretty sure, lol.
"TiggaMan909
From the sounds of things, SH-AWD really only kicks in during really hard cornering and has no play in normal day-to-day driving."

In Search Of Sunrise....
Am I reading Acura.com build configurator right? If I want a spare tire, I have to spring for SH-AWD, otherwise i get a "Tire Repair Kit"?!!?
Is this true or am I just misunderstanding the language here?

I don't think its gets any more lame then this! Seriously Acura? This is how you want to get to top tier luxury?!!?

I believe you are correct. Spare tire is only with the AWD model, no go with the FWD version.

In many states, if you trade your car in on a new one, the value of the used car can be applied towards the total tax due on the new one, therefore saving some additional money.
Several weeks ago I was interested in a new truck. I received several similar offers for my trade in from two dealers, and a similar value from CarMax all right at $35000.00
Here in Texas, if I traded the car in with the new car dealer, I would save an additional $2188.00 of taxes not having to be paid on the new vehicle (6.25 %). If I sold it to CarMax and then bought the new truck, I would not get the tax savings and would have to pay the full tax amount on the new one.

The TSX Wagon, ILX Hybrid and RLX all have no spare. It is available as an accessory in parts.

In Search Of Sunrise....
I wasn't aware that so many manufacturers were opting out of the whole spare tire business... I just purchased an M37S a few months ago and I know it comes with a spare tire so i just made the assumption that this was still considered to be an industry standard.
Appreciate the education but I would still prefer the option of having a spare on board just for peace of mind. Having to pay a 2K premium for a feature that i dont need (SH-AWD) to get a spare tire is still pretty ridiculous IMO.

So I can still purchase FWD and purchase a standalone spare that I can have mounted inside or underneath the vehicle? I'm just wondering if the housing for the spare still exists on FWD and that isn't something thats exclusive to SH-AWD.

Advanced
Just got an email from my dealer that their first batch of the new MDX just arrived and I can now schedule a test drive. I previously put a $500 deposit on a forest mist metallic with eucalyptus interior SH-AWD Advance trim.

Still waiting for these things to show up here at my dealer in Tampa. I keep squinting at all of the deliver trucks to see if our cars are on them, haha.

Unfortunately they don't have any forest mist metallic MDX yet. They said it will be a week or two until they get that color. They only have white/parchment, graphite/graystone, black/ebony and black/parchment right now.

I think that's a safe assumption but haven't confirmed with parts personally. In the other examples, the 'kit' includes all the mounting hardware, jack and tools. IMO, it's kind of pricy for us here. Earlier someone said a can a fix-a-flat was only $45 so this is what Acura is saving... actually it's what they're spending. What they're saving is the cost of the spare and goodies that go with it.

I just wanted to snap a couple of pictures when they got here. If you have any specific things you'd like to see, I can take more. Can't wait to see these guys all cleaned up.

having already seen, touched and played in one last week, i'm interested in bringing it all together with a test drive in the near future!
i'd be interested in seeing the other "brighter colors" (forest mist, the blue and the red-not that those would be my top choices in car colors, but just curious). also want to see what the eucalyptus really looks like.

Interesting! It looks like the Advanced gets Michelin Latitude Tour HP, while the Tech gets Continentals.
Btw, one of my local dealers has the spare wheel/tire for the FWD model for $727, installed.
