Speakers getting blown out

I have 7500 miles on the car since I bought it in early July (Commute to work alot). I have the both the rear driverside and front passenger side speaker that rattles at high and low volumes an dat high frequencies it get staticky. Has anyone noticed this problem? I typically set the volume to 20 but sometimes it will get up to 30. I never heard it start to crack at that level but didn't want to push it. Do you think I am setting the volume too high or there is something else rattling in my doors? The dealer is replacing the rear speaker as we speak and I'm having them check out the front since it wasnt rattling until the rear went out.

OMG...literally, just YESTERDAY I noticed that. Today I sat in my car and listened to the audio-DVD that came with the car because I know how good (i.e., pure) the sound is from that DVD. It is definitely a low buzz/reverb that I am getting from the left front speaker above the door. When I listen to an all news channel it sounds like the teacher from the Peanuts cartoons coming from the speaker. I have 3,000 miles on my TSX. I love the car, but I'm a bit bummed it has to go in.

Good luck,
Traci

The same speaker on mine blew today (driver's side door tweeter), I rarely turn the volume up over 15, sometimes go as high as 20 depending on the song but I seriously don't think I did anything to warrant this speaker blowing out. I'll be taking my car in to the dealer in the next few weeks.

Yeah, my driver side speaker and tweater had to be replaced after only having it a few weeks. Sounds awesome now. I generally listen to XM ~25 and CD's/Ipod ~20.

Do you guys have the tech package stereo or the base? I have the tech package and I've actually noticed my sound getting better as the speakers break in (i have 6500 miles on the car). At first they were a bit too tight and I worried about blowing them. Now, however, they sound much cleaner and I crank it up to 35 and more all the time.

Also, I have the Dolby turned off (don't like how it sounds) and the settings at Bass +3, Treble +3, Sub +3, and everything else at 0. It might be nice to see what settings other people have found that they like.

The last time I checked, speakers didn't have a "break-in" period.

I have the Tech pkg and my speakers sound great.

Just got back from the dealership...they should have my new tweeter on Monday. I have the tech package, so poor sound due to bad speakers is a definite problem. I wonder if it's a quality control issue at the factory. Oh well - as long as this is the LAST time I need to do it. And, no, I don't crank the stereo to the point where I'd blow the speakers.

Wow, this is funny, I just called a friend with an 07 TL-S today to ask him if he replaced his speakers because of a fuzzy distortion at lower volume and I think it's my door speakers, but can't really tell. He didn't for that reason, just that he wanted a RockFos thing that lets you install amps (Alpine digital something) and Focal(?) speakers and a JL-W12 sub and all that crap.

When I took delivery (15m miles on it) some numbnuts had cranked up Treb, Bass, Sub to max and it was on Hip-Hop 101. Arrgggh.

I'm sure you know better than me, but my speakers sound better then they did on day one. And speakers do get better with age.

I just noticed this in my passenger side rear door today. When I called the dealer to make a service appointment, the guy I talked to acted like this is a common problem. He told me they were having problems with the speakers in the rear deck the majority of the time. Wonder if it could possibly be an amp issue as opposed to the speakers them selves?

They replaced my front door tweeter but it started crackling again. It's not as bad as it was, but looks like I'm headed back to the dealer!

I might check with extended warranty prices while I'm there, I planned to keep this car for a while but I have a feeling that maintaining it could become expensive if I drive it for 100k more miles...

Does anyone have the Acura document to disassemble the front door panels on the 09 TSX ?

I am thinking of replacing my front door speakers and don't want to tear up my door panels. It would be helpful to know where all the screws and tabs are located.

Saga update:
-Made appt. (for a Sat.) to get driver's side speaker replaced
-Something came up; called to cancel appt. I was told "we couldn't have fixed it on a Saturday anyway, so it's a good thing you're not coming." Nice. Aren't they the ones who MADE the appt.?
-Rescheduled appt. for a Wednesday. Took a vacation day from work.
-Went in today to get speaker replaced. I get in car, nothing has changed. They replaced the wrong one. The tweeter is fine, it's the door speaker.
-Not happy I would have to take another day off, now, for some reason, it's okay to come in on a Saturday. Going back on Sat. to get proper speaker replaced.

I love the car, the dealership has realllly good coffee and free water, but yikes. I hope this is the last time I need to take it in. As my mother used to say, "When you get all those extras it's just more to break."

The wife is taking her car in tomorrow morning and leaving it for the day. She called today and they claimed they kept replacement speakers in stock. We shall see. I listened to it tonight with the DVD-A disc that came with the car and it sounds like the drivers door and both passenger side door speakers are shot.

Is there anyway we can document maybe the last few digits of the VIN or the production date and which plant the cars with the speaker issues are having problems?

I have 1600 miles on the car, but the speakers seem fine, I play them usually anywhere from volume 10 to 25, the sub and the bass is up two notches from the mid point, treble is up almost all the way. I am trying to find a pattern with the speaker failure.

Or is it just going to happen to all of us eventually?

Mine has 3500 miles, and I do have a same problem with front left speaker. It rattles and sounds fuzzy at low frequency response. I visited the service dept. They said the car is too new and they don't have new speakers in stock. Does TSX 09 use brand new speakers? Anyway, the problem is still not solved yet, and it was an unpleasant experience.

So, after my wife took her car in two weeks ago they told her that they would in fact have to order the speakers, imagine that. So she took it in today and they gave her a loner TL. When she picked it up the service manager informed her that she would have to bring it back b/c they broke a trim piece on the lower part of the door. It's hardly noticable. But what wasn't hardly noticable were the numerous scratch and swirl marks the retarded service guy decided to etch into the paint on top of the trunk lid. I keep playing it out in my mind that he placed the boxes with the new speakers on the trunk lid b/c it made a nice work shelf. They are lucky they weren't open this evening when I got home b/c I probably would have gone over there and shown my ass. However, they Leith Acura in Cary, NC WILL be receiving a phone call tomorrow morning.

hey man, i don't own a TSX but i think unless you have the "tech", there are no speakers in the rear doors behind those speaker grills. Those are only there for the tech package i believe

Between this and the rattling automatic transmission, it is making me re-think getting a TSX. I bought a 04 when they first came out, against my better judgement, you know the first model year paranoia, but it turned out to be a great car, no trouble what so ever.... Maybe I will take a closer look at the ES350

mine will be going in to "diagnose" the problem on monday. the speaker on the driver door is blown.

they said they usually don't stock speakers, but need to first diagnose it before ordering one. hopefully i'll get lucky somehow with one trip, but they're giving me a loaner so it won't be too much of a pain

Two speakers replaced and need one more.

I have tech pkg and I had to replace the two front door speakers for the same reason a week ago. The sound was really distored. Had to wait for two weeks to have them replaced and sound is a lot better, but looks like I'm heading back to the dealership cause the right rear door speaker is also bad. This one would be my third trip to the dealership. I'm tired of that......

Well, with 10,800 miles so far I am now heading back to the dealership on monday to get my driver side speaker replaced again.

I'm not sure why only my driver side speaker has gone bad twice, everything else sounds great. Perhaps since it is the only door that really gets opened and closed?? That would be stupid for a speaker to go bad from opening and closing a door though.

I enjoy their hot chocolate, but I have made way too many service trips in the last 8 months.

Has anyone replaced their speakers in tech. package cars with aftermarket speakers? Maybe there is a low cost solution to this problem.

LOL I actually have this saying in the back of my head during each test drive, and as I currently decide between Base or Tech (if even an '09 TSX at all).

So it seems as if an overwhelming majority of these speaker issues are w/ the Tech model. Would that be a fair statement?

I had my front door woofers replaced yesterday @ the dealer. My service advisor stated the updated ones are heavier than the ones they replaced. It definitely sounds better, but I won't be able to tell if those are all that are damaged for a couple of days.

My rear woofers are blown too, it's more obvious now that the fronts are replaced.

FWIW, I noticed after the replacement that the dealer defeated the Dolby PL blah blah in the Sound menu. If I try to adjust it, it won't allow me to toggle over to Dolby, it has a note out to the side that reads "Not available on this source" or something like that. I tried it on the OE DVD-A disc, the iPod or radio, etc.
