Exclamation LED's and fuse boxes

Hello everyone, im new to the site. I work at an acura dealer in the parts department, and i saw a new tsx come in for service customer stating his headlights on the passanger side and his tail lights on his drivers side would not come on. One of our master techs took a look at it and hooked it up to the HDS (Honda Dig System), and after further investigation it came down to a problem with both cabin fuses boxes, turns out they had to much resistance, caused by the LEDs installed on the car. the fix was to return all the LEDs back to stock halogens, and replacing the fuse boxes b/c they were both fried. This customer had every halogen replaced with LED's along with the DRL. After replacing all the lights and fuse boxes the problem did not happen again.... just trying to give a fair warning to everyone out there going that route.

Thanks for letting us know. i assume this wasn't covered under warranty since the LED's caused it? how expensive was the fix?

also, by every halogen, do you mean all interior lights, fogs, turn signals, DRL, tail lights, reverse lights, the whole deal? alot of the members, includding me have the entire interior and license plate lights as LED without a problem, also HID fogs.

this just puzzles me because i was under the impression LED's use a good amount less power than halogens, and are actually much more efficient. improper installation is a different story.

i don't mean to attack you, im just curious. thanks

no no its ok no offense taken here.... well from talking to the tech since the LED's use less power the fuse boxes are still outputting all the power as if they still has halogens in the sockets, so its basically its over loading the fuse box with extra power, this customer had every light changed out. Yes it was not warranty since aftermarket parts caused the issues, each fused box was about $500.

This slightly worries me now lol HID Fogs, LED interior + LED reverse lights.

How long did the client have the LED's in the car?

I suspect that the main cause may be high-beam LEDs. Stock halogen in our cars are "dimmed" electronically (I think they are rapidly turned on/off 60 times or so per second by circuitry). So then maybe replacing these by LEDs may interfere with that circuitry and cause damage to the fuse boxes that house them? just speculating here...

I'm not an electrical engineer at all. So if this seems stupid it's because I don't know anything about it. So if you wanted to put LED's in your interior and not fry the circuits, does this imply that you would want to put fuses in with lower output? Or is it all based on the circuit?

Or put another way, I want to put LED's on my front interior overhead lamps. Is there a way to safely to do that? I don't want to cause damage to the car for it.

as i said, i have LED's in the two front map lights, in the rear dome light, the vanity mirrors, and the doors. i've had them for several months with no problem, i know others have had it longer, probably for over a year or two. you should be fine. i think this gets iffy why you put LED's in the turn signals, DRL's, and tail lights which have higher wattages

I have full LED interior and LED DRLs. With HID fogs. About a year now, and i've noticed the lights flickering when i turn the ignition.

My cousin also had the same setup minus the fogs in his Accord Coupe (8th gen) and he's blown a couple fuses. of course it might be because the douche kept his hi beams on all the time cuz he thought his led DRLs were "mad cool jdm tye yo,".

keeping high beams on is douchey, though i guess LED's are weak enough to not matter. i keep my low beams and fogs on at all times(day and night, i like the look). flashing highbeams diverts power from the fogs, so i wouldn't have them on anyway. i was thinking of the nokya arctics that make the housing seem blue, since i have a vortex blue

So if I only install led in the interior, license plate, and trunk, I will be fine? Or can this also blow the fuse?
This worries me now, I just placed an order on vled.
