How old is the garage door opener?

If it is very old then the frequency is out of range. If it is new, then it may have a rolling code that requires a second step to sync the opener.

Also, put a fresh battery in your garage openr prior to trying to syn - fresh battery = stronger signal.

I had a lot of trouble with this too. Mine has the rolling code. Manual isn't real clear on this. As I recall, the manual seems to say you can just do steps 4a and 4b if you have the rolling code. But no, you have to do steps 1,2,3,4, 4a,and 4b even though steps 1-3 didn't seem to do anything. Hope this works. And oh, don't be inside the garage when you do it, the signal can get blocked.

ah my problem might be that im in the garage then, ill try outside. remote is brand new universal but not native to the actual garage door opener (that shouldnt matter right?). There is no rolling/learn code as the garage door is a stanley st-400 and there are no learning buttons on the garage door installation.

i dont notice the LED blinking faster after 10-20 seconds of holding both buttons down.

IIRC, then stanley went out of the door opener business in 96/97 so they wouldn't have rolling codes - but - many of the universal remotes won't work with Homelink.

Try this - clear all the codes in the homelink and try to reprogram. If that doesn't work then check for compatibility with your universal remote on the homelink website or call them directly.

so i called em and they said the frequency of my universal opener is in range for homelink and the stanley opener is also compatible. only reco they had was getting a new battery which ill try later but i doubt will make a diff on a brand new remote.

Did try to sync it up again last night and this morning outside of garage with no luck.

ive cleared the codes and tried to reprogram 6+ times now.

I think you need to link the homelink directly with the garage opener unit (not the remote of that unit). Check the manual. If I remember correctly, you need to push the "learn" button on the back of garage opener *unit* (orange button?) and within a short time period, press the appropriate homelink button etc. (there is a specific sequence listed in the instructions). You should not rely of the _remote_ of the garage door opener, but on the opener itself.

Perhaps you missed the part that his opener is pre-rolling code, so it doesn't have a "learn" button.

Hello! I'm just new here but I do want to try and help. I just sync'd our garage opener with my CU2 homelink and here's what I did:
1. Held buttons 1 & 3 until they blink fast.(this clears the memory)
2. Held the garage opener remote 5 inches away from the homelink buttons (the manual says you can hold it up to 12 inches away)
3. press and hold garage remote button and homelink button #1 for 5 seconds
4. while still holding the homelink button, i released the garage remote button and did 3 short presses.(without letting go of homelink button)
5. let go of homelink button.
(please note: im inside the garage the entire process)

here's where it seems to be confusing:

after the above process, i pressed homelink button 1 but nothing happened. pressed it numerous times but still nothing. then i opened the garage with the garage remote, which it did.
I started to think maybe there's something wrong or maybe the homelink is faulty.
BUT accidentally i PRESS AND HOLD on homelink button #1 and the garage door opened!! so maybe you need to hold the button?
Im not sure if that's the case with others here but that's how it works on mine.
