Engine oil consumption (TSB 13-006)
My 2009 TSX is consuming oil and was verified by the dealer but since it's over the 125,000 extended warranty issued under TSB 13-006, Acura refused to fix it. I'm considering filing a class action lawsuit and have discussed this issue with an attorney specialized in class action lawsuits, their firm handed the Subaru class action lawsuit and won Subaru Owners Win Compensation And Warranty Boost For Oil-Burning Cars
If you've had the same issue with your TSX consuming crazy amounts of oil, it's the faulty engine and you probably need pistons and rings replaced, please let me know how it was resolved and if you're interested in joining me, please PM privately.

My 2010 TSX is using crazy amounts of oil and I'm afraid it has already caused engine damage. It's been meticulously maintained at the dealer, but like you, it's over the 125K limit and they're giving the run around trying to pin the blame on me and my driving habits.

I had the same issue around 90-100K miles. Every time I would make a sharp turn, the low oil light would turn on. I knew the dealer wouldn't repair this so I decided to write a letter to Acura Client Service. I figured it's worth a shot. I wrote how I relied on Acura and all the past issues I had to experience with this car.
Believe it or not, they contacted me after couple of weeks and they offered to repair this for free as long as it can be verified by the dealer. I left my car with the dealer and they verified that the car is indeed burning oil (took about 2 days I think). They fixed the car and I did not have to pay a single dime.
I'm currently at 170K miles and no issue with burning oil.

My '11 TSX (6 speed man) has burnt oil since new, it now has 57K mi. You can see my service records here http://myacurasucks.com Please spare me the insulting maintenance questions, our '03 MDX has 190K so we do our maintenance. Honda is not standing behind these cars. They have already lost a class action to the tune of 1.6 million cars but that is worded so they don't have to do anything unless you are burning more than a quart of oil per 1000 miles. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU IT IS Excessive Oil Consumption Isn't Normal - Consumer Reports I am rather frustrated with everyone telling me how great Honda is grrrrrr. Some bloke was talking about starting another class action but that was over in the TL section (he was talking about a TSX though), I'm not hopeful, the last class action (I referenced above) got the lawyers paid and Honda only had to fix your car if you were burning 1qt per thousand. As for the extended warranty Google "myacurasucks," no joy!

I feel I should clarify. I have received the "extended warranty" letter. Honda is not honoring it (search for myacurasucks for details). Unfortunately, I live in Kentucky and our state Attorney General Andy Beshear, is fairly worthless (unless your piking a fight with the Governor and then he's all ears :-) I gather it costs about $5K to pull an engine these days, thats too much of a small claim and too little to sue (I don't have that kind of time for a tort). I hate this car. I hate Honda. ...and the '03 MDX, that we've had since new, clearly had a design life of ten years, I probably need to retire it. I'm so done with "luxury" cars.

I too have a 2011 TSX with 6MT. Dealer is performing an oil consumption test after my oil light flashed a couple of times going up a steep garage parking ramp.
I am extremely gentle with my vehicle, waiting for it to warm up a full 1-2 minutes (depending on ambient temperature) and never revving past 2500 RPM before being fully warmed up.
It seems to be the Maintenance Minder may add to the problem. To reduce Acura's total cost of ownership, I think the MM extends oil change intervals beyond what is prudent. Plus, the MM says it is NOT necessary to change the oil filter for an A1 service. That is shortsighted. I have started changing the oil and filter at 5k miles, regardless of what the MM says. Oil and filters are cheap insurance.
I note that Honda is claiming one reason for excessive oil consumption is the use of "bad gas." What exactly does that mean? Doesn't all gas have to meet state and federal standards?
Is Honda talking about "Top Tier" gasoline, which some believe to be more about marketing than scientific advantages? The use of "added detergents" is dubious. A gasoline retailer can add one drop of detergent into an underground tank and claim its fuel has added detergent. Who is measuring and testing this claim?
I am also keeping ALL my gas receipts to show that I used premium fuel from Top Tier suppliers. I scribble my mileage on the receipt for record keeping. Can't hurt.

Hey guys, new to the forums.
My wifes 09 Auto Tsx is having this exact issue! I've started taking car of the car myself now and for the past year its been consuming tons of oil!! It started at about 85k miles and now the car has 107k miles and i have to add about 1qt every 1000-1500 miles! I just recently switched to synthetic as well 2 oil changes ago. Its getting expensive. She doesn't recall getting any TSB for it in the mail so wondering if anyone has a c opy of it so I can show to my dealer. I'm also afraid a dealer will not honor it since its got so many miles on it. I want to get this done ASAP. thanks!

You don't get TSB's by mail, only recall notices. 1 qt/1000 miles is excessive IMO, but probably not so for Acura.
Make sure PCV system is working correctly as this can cause excessive oil consumption if PCV valve doesn't check air flow. An oil-wet throttle plate indicates excessive PCV bypass.
Frequent heavy throttle input can also increase oil consumption as crankcase pressure goes positive forcing oil vapor into air intake duct through PCV air intake.
good luck

As you can see (I assume) from the threads here, that this was/is a pretty big issue (and it's now like 10+ years old). I can't remember how many cars suffered from oil usage, but it didn't effect all cars (my 010 escaped it). How many have been fixed? Who knows. The fix was/is to rebuild (or just replace) the engine, so needless to say, Honda couldn't have been thrilled about that. A quart every 1000 miles is annoying I'd agree, but for many people it could be as infrequently as once a month, or less, with the bonus of probably never having to change your oil again. Available options are pretty limited now I suppose. Buy some oil in bulk and add it when necessary? Get rid of the car? I'd be curious how many people this drove away from the Honda brand.
