Condensation in the left tail light

It seems that the driver side tail light (clear blinker portion) is filling up with water in it as well as condensation. The condensation is appearing slightly in the brake light portion as well.

Why would this be happening? Do these tail lights have gaskets/salents that may have went bad?

What would be a fix for this issue?

Thanks.

Probably went bad when the previous owner drove the car into the ocean.

lol yet another problem with the soupimobile.
You need to seriously sell that turd of a car. it was clearly repaired terribly.

It's happening because it was repaired terribly. It shouldn't be doing that.
Ok... but if you want to fix it then take it off the car and reseal it. easy fix...

Selling it is not a option, but I will remove the tail light this weekend and reseal it... Do i need to order a specific gasket or any sealant will work?

Rubber butyl is what headlight/tailight retrofitters use.

or just RTV sealant should work too. As long as it's water tight..

^yea what he said. the butyl stuff is the best.

may as well check the other side tail light while you're at it.... it's probably fucked up as well.

Don't know how you're planning on sealing them up, but it might be worth popping them in the oven to remove the lens from the housing first. Then you can give the inside of the lens a good wipe down with some isopropyl alcohol or vinegar and a lint free cloth to remove any water spots. Bake the lens and housing again to make sure any moisture is evaporated before putting it back together with new adhesive.

Good luck!

There are two issues here. These are not sealed units so moisture will always get in. The lenses have holes in them for condensation to escape.

To get the condensation you are seeing here, you need quite a bit of moisture.

Take the housing off and figure out where the moisture is coming from - you might have a huge mess back there and we can always use a good laugh at your expense.

You need to dry the housing out before you put it all back together.
