Cabin Filter Insulation?

Hi all -
Went to replace cabin filter on '09 TSX this evening. After removing the filter i noticed some thick mass of what looks like cotton and threads along the top of the vent (directly above the blower motor). I've seen some other posts suggest this could be mice making a home in there. Didn't see any mice so maybe they are long gone. Is that the case here, or is there supposed to be some kind of insulation or other material along the top??

We have a lot of Cottonwood trees and this can build-up on the cabin air filter to look like a nest sitting on top. I don't think anything much larger than a bread crumb can get to the cabin filter. I just change my cabin filter every year in the spring to cut down on the build-up.

My TSX, RDX and MDX take the same size cabin air filter. I usually order from Amazon the Fram CF10134 Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter with carbon and baking soda for about $16 each. I usually order enough other stuff on Amazon several times a year to get the free shipping and save the filter for the spring install. Walmart also sells this type of cabin filter for around the same price+tax (no tax makes Amazon cheaper).

Talk about rip off. I did what mrgold35 mentioned. Went to eBay and bought a Fram FreshBreeze for $16 or so. Want to spend even less? Just opt for a regular filter, costs like $8.

It's a relatively easy to install but the glove box tray is a bitch to get back in right.

Sure you're not thinking of the 1st gen? That one does suck to replace, but a 6 y/o could swap the one in the 2nd gen car.

Haha. Funny thing is I found my tray in my trunk, next to the spare when I bought my car. I tried to put it up after finding out what it was and I drove the car and a few minutes later I hear a thud and realized the tray had fallen down. Haven't attempted to get it back up yet.

Yeah, I forgot about that stupid shelf, or tray, or whatever it is. The first thing I did when I got the car was to remove that. Now I know what the other guy was complaining about.

Haha yeah. I think it doesn't have good support because it doesn't lock in properly. So far it's doing a good job of laying down in the glove box...lol.
