Blown speakers-what build date is your car.

Wondered if people would be willing to provide the build date of their cars who are having an issue with blown speakers. I would be the first to do it but my car is at the shop for that very problem.

I suppose we would need the date from the door and the last six of the VIN? As soon as I get my car back I will post my numbers.

Why do you think the build date has anything to do with it? What were you doing when your speakers blew out? Do you think it's the amp?

I think that he is trying to narrow down the build date to see if this speaker problem could be due to a bad batch.

I know guess there's a good reason why it's not user error as they say.

I was listening to music when the speaker blew. I usually listen at no louder then volume 15. I destroyed my left ear as a kid listening to super highs in my car so now if things get too loud, my left ear makes sounds like a blown speaker. Go figure. No it wasn't my ear.

I got the Tech because I wanted something that sounded clear without having to crank the volume.

I was thinking of replacing the speakers but don't want to do it until Acura figures out what the hell is going on.

Are people having problems with the speaker in the premium model as well?

I listen to mine anywhere from 15-18 max when on the interstate...it's decently loud at that level. But I don't seem to have any blown speakers yet.

Could you tell the instant it blew? Did it just sound like instant garbage? I honestly don't think I've ever heard a blown speaker before, but I think I know what it would sound like.

Actually, most (if not all) of the cases of blown speakers are happening on TECH ELS systems.

I guess something else that would be nice to know is at what volume levels are you listening to your music? I mean it should technically work at every level without blowing a speaker, but just out of curiosity.

I agree. Speakers in a factory highend system should not blow at any volume. Acura/ELS engineers should have placed a "redline" on the amplifier to the max volume. I know that on a BOSE system i recently checked, the system would cut off bass to the midranges at high volume.

My guess is that it is a bad batch of speakers. I don't hear too much of this problem with the TL ELS system...and the TL came out after the TSX. If the newer TSX still have this problem, then Acura truly cut cost on the TSX ELS system!

My dealer dude said the replacements are much heavier, even mentioned 'kevlar' (muhahahhahah, whatever).

Anyway, my build date is 04/08 and I'm on replacement pair #1 on my front lower doors.

OK so far two earlier build dates. It just looks like on the other thread discussion of blown speakers has really died down big time.

I have 10/08 and so far no issues. Listen to a lot of bass heavy music too (house, trance, techno). Knock on wood here.

The guy that did the audiophile wide spectrum blah blah blah on the other thread recommended a +1 Treb, +1 Bass and +1 Sub setting, which I followed and it really does sound better to me. Less distortion and much cleaner than me upping the bass & sub more which I'm sure contributes to them blowing more easily, right? (Duh)

Didn't he say -1 bass and -1 sub to be FLAT?

HUGE +REP for this post. Thank you thank you thank you!! This post should be made a sticky--very informative for audiophiles. It looks like the system is tuned specifically to overcome the engine sound as the engine idle looks almost to be the same graphic.

It's funny though, I've spent a lot of time tweaking my system to what I perceive to be the warmest sound possible, and I end up with Treble +1, Bass +1, and Sub +1.

It would be interesting to see you test this at separate volumes because I am 100% certain that the EQ is completely different at a volume of 10 versus a volume of 30 for instance.

I wish that were true but this is how I've had my system set up since day one. +1, +1, +1

My build date was 6/08, my setting is +6 all the away across, however I play it in the under 15 volume range, no low bass rap music. Once the speaker gets fixed next week, I will see how the +1's sound.

My speaker blew playing random music off of the flash drive. There are volume differences from folder to folder, I was playing one track which happens to be at a "lower volume", so I pushed up the volume, the next track had a "high volume" and bada bing, there is the noise. Any suggestions on how to normalize sound variances on your downloads?
