Any idea what melted my passenger seat?
I have a 2012 acura tsx and I noticed today that my passenger seat appears to have...melted somehow.
If you look at the image it looks like a solvent spilled or perhaps a seat warmer overheated. The only thing that's been on my seat was a new car battery from Costco which sat there for 2 days. I don't see any leaking acid or cracks on the battery though at all and I installed the battery and it works fine. So confused here...don't know if I should pursue remedy from Costco or from my extended warranty for a seat warmer malfunction? This looks expensive right? Replacing the entire seat would be necessary?

Update: I did have some takeout on this seat for a whopping 3 block drive. But it wasn't that hot when I got it home and seriously... The restaurant is 2min away. I've had the seat heater on for hours with no issue.
Are acura seats that Prone to melting? I'm 47...Never seen this happen. And have gotten takeout from this place dozens of times. Something feels wrong about that explanation.

Of all the things, I'd guess it was the battery. It may have been something on the outside of the battery from the store or something.
I doubt Costco will be able to do anything about it. Maybe the extended warranty might, but I don't think that's a seat heater issue. But it doesn't hurt to try.

Damn. That would piss me off. But bro - a battery on the car seat That's what the floor and trunk are for. Even if it hadn't melted it, heavy isolated weight and sharp edges are no-no's on leather

I'm guessing OP didn't have anything in the trunk that would hold the battery up to prevent acid leakage/spillage, so he opted to put it on the passenger seat so that he could hold it upright with one hand (but failed nonetheless).

I've always placed my battery in the trunk while transporting it. Never had one tip over. I must be doing something wrong. I'll have to hit those corners harder next time. Or do you think hard acceleration and braking will be enough?

I would look at the foam to see if its damaged below, (dig in), but I really suspect the battery much more than the takeout, and both much more than the seat heater. I suspect a failed seat heater would have taken out all the foam before the leather like stuff.

My guess:
excess battery acid on the outside of the battery from the factory. warm takeout heated up/activated the acid which proceeded to eat through the vinyl leather.
but IANAS (i am not a scientist)

Deng, must've smelt very bad. You don't have to replace the whole seat but just the skin, Cover, L Front Seat Cushion Trim *NH690L* (Leather) (Premium Black) - part number: 81531-TL2-A04ZB Cruise around eBay for cheaper alternative. Gud lock.
