Question 09 TSX A/C odor

I have an 09TSX tech and a bad humidity smell comes out from the A/C ducts even when the A/C is off. It happens when the outside air enters inside the car (refreshing mode according to the manual) or when I turn on the A/C for the first time. If I close the air ducts (Circulation mode) the smell goes off. I'm wondering If the a/c system can be clean up without charge at the dealership if I only have 5000 miles. I already tryed, but as always they did not find anythig wrong with the a/c. Thanks for your comments!

Its weird that this would happen on a new car, but it happens to every honda I've driven eventually.

Just spray some antimicrobial disinfectant in the intake vents below the windshield. Make sure the car is running, the A/C is on with the fan speed at full blast, and then spray. Have your windows open and don't sit in the car while that stuff is running though the vents. You should be able to smell it coming through the vents. Run it like that for a minute or 2 or until you don't detect the odor coming through the vents. don't do it if you are about to get in and drive the car.

that should remove the musty smell. Do this a couple of times a year, especially during the warmer months.

Thanks a lot. It seems to be really helpful. I going to try it this comming weekend. I guess I can find the antimicrobial on any auto parts store.

Yeah, it should be simple fix, Lysol/Simple Green will do the trick. Odor probably caused by mold/mildew growth. Also, check your cabin air filter to see if anything got lodged in there that could be causing a smell...

I have a similar problem... But I think I know what caused the stinky smell coming from my A/C. I was cleaning out my freezer and fridge, and dumb me, I threw all the food in the garbage that night and left the garbage can in my garage overnight and the next morning, my garage was stinky as hell and my car was parked in the garage. As soon as got in the car to drive away, the same stinky smell was coming from my A/C vents and it won't go away. It's been almost 2 months now... How do I fix this? I checked the cabin filter and it doesn't have any smell on the filter. What's the next place I should check? Thanks!

Try spraying some Simple Green into your vents, from the inside, and outside (right under the windshield) then run your a/c for a while, drawing the outside air in. Sounds like the ducting is contaminated with bacteria.

Also, take out your cabin air filter before doing this, to see if it is contaminated, you might need a new one. Give a a whiff to see if it got some junk in there.

Thanks! I'll try this and see what happens. I removed the cabin air filter and smelled it and it had no odor at all. Just a slight new car smell from inside the glove box I think.

its mold and fungus that build on the evaporitive core. spraying will mask it but the only way to clean it is to get in there and WIPE IT with some stuff that KILLS BACTERIA. i am not sure simple green does this......but febreeze or lysol might.

Be very careful with simple green - it does nasty things to aluminum. Do you know what parts in there are aluminum? In addition, SG doesn't kill mold and needs to be rinsed with water afterwards - you can't do that in your vents.

The easiest proper way to fix it is to get some stuff made specifically for this purpose. I use Wurth A/C & Heating System Treatment but there are lots of other products like BG's Frigi Fresh/Clean or 1Z Klima Cleaner available.

You might just need to change your cabin filter, But if you live in a humid stink hole you might just need to change your address.

check cabin filter. if that not source its a mold on the evaporator.

you need a ggod cleaner for that Wurth makes a good one. kills mold and such and wont harm anything like Ceb is warning you about.
