I've been drinking lately so as a result I have been working on my car.

Tryin to get the coomplex curve of the window..

stupid love bugs!!

Progress of the lip

The lips have quite the boner towards the middle. Gotta fix that... saw a random ass pic of defcons old tsx when he was making a custom lip too (did that ever happen??) so I figured it would be a good idea to tape the lip mold to the tsx then glass over top to the exact contour.

And here is progress on the surfboard... its gunna be sick after I finish.

yea its called warping. it didnt fully cure which is why its curved up. you should have left it on the type S lip and let it sit for a few days taped up or backed by wood so it doesnt curl

This is the kind of useful info that would have been appreciated in a pm. But really lol, I left both of them to cure completely for 24hrs in an 85F garage. Still took 20 min each to get them off the original lips, maybe I'll take a pic with the original lips and see if they were warped to begin with. Good news is that, I glassed about 1in too long on purpose so most of that boner will be cut off.

Nothing carbon fiber was started yet because epoxy resin is apparently hard to find, and west marine is like triple the price for all of their supplies. Got some on ebay, should arrive on monday or tues, along with my mystery piece.

I know it's not the update yall wanted lol.. but I finished fixing my 2nd board. It's matrix themed. The code even glows when the lights are off, but I dont have a camera that has low enough exposure to show it. Hope yall like it.

I did receive my epoxy resin in the mail though, and got some balsa wood to start shaping the middle of my lip. The project continues!

This is roughly the difference in height I want between the center piece and outer lips, maybe a little less than that but you get the idea. I think I'm gunna use molding clay to connect the two pieces. Probably tape the lips in place on the bumper then "clay it" together. Not sure how that's gunna work out lol

Although, butting the two surfaces together might be easier and more stable... we will see when the time comes closer.
1.Next step is to spray some expanding foam inside the two lips and tape them to the bumper, this will hopefully allow them to sit perfectly flush against the bumper.
2. Once that is completed it's BONDO TIME. Ill try to get all the small bumps and voids in the fiberglass so that it's nice and smooth.
3. Tape the lips to the bumper for "claying" the middle piece into place.
4. Once that clay is dry Ill put my 2nd layer of carbon fiber on, overlaying the clay as well.
5. More resin, more resin, sand, clear coat.
6. Paint time. hopefully it's not $300 this time lol

So that's the run down. If it doesn't work, this will probably be the last exterior mod I try to do myself.

ive used chicken wire fencing as a bridge to connect those 2 pieces together. get the wired fence that has the squre shapes.

ive used clay before and it works.
you can also try Dry Wall spackle to form the shape. its easier to sand. then glass it.

you can also try those cast strips used by pregnant women to mold their bellies. it has the same consistency as the Dry Wall spackle but its used with gauze strips

hey homeboy, go buy some $24 paint matched 12oz spray cans here. i used this to paint match my lips and mud guards.
http://www.expresspaint.com/

also buy the $18 2K clear coat spray can with hardener
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=2k+clear+coat

^^ yeah but you don't have a pearl paint. I went to that sight and it was like $50 to get paint match for pearl white. Seemed like a lot for one spray can of paint. And what if one can isn't enough.

Also what kind of clay did you use? Just regular clay at a craft store?

I suggest once you get the fitment you like on the bumper, you should make a mold off that. That is the REAL way of making aero. Good way of learning though...keep it up

Sounds like a good idea! Wish I had a garage, or real method of making legit molds. Right now I do all my work in the outside parking lot of my apartment complex. I only get to work in the afternoons when it doesn't rain lol. The parts have made my small room smell like resin and bondo haha. I have no where else to store them lol.

Yeah, it's coming along. The carbon fiber looks pretty good for using polyester resin (and not clear epoxy resin). Yeah once I get a heat gun on the edges ill be able to lift it up close enough to 3m tape it and use clear silicone to seal it up. Once everything is dry I can re do the plastidip and it'll be looking sexy.BTW if anyone was thinking of doing this, cutting a hole in the carbon fiber (for the tow hook)at the right location is really tough, you're kinda blind cause you don't know where it will sit until you actually cut the hole.

Then I'll try to work on the lip!
