Removed Intake Resonator

Just removed my resonator, I think I fell in love with my car all over again. Definitely hear the difference about 3500 RPM. It even feels like it pulls more in third gear. Easy mod, took about an hour just cause my bottom clips had never been removed before.

ehhh, tried to record the difference from before and after but all i had to record was my stupid LG phone, a lot of background interference. Might try and get ahold of a good camera and record a new clip this weekend if yall wanna hear it.

It sounds cooler, but it definitely doesn't pull harder. That's just a placebo effect.

So this is purely for sound? What exactly does an Intake Resonator do anyways?

It quiets engine noise at higher RPM and supposedly it helps from water splashing up into the filter. I took mine off for the sound, and its a GOOD loud too. As far as performance gains there are mixed opinions. When you remove it there is less restriction to airflow so an increase in hp is possible. I think there is a thread somewhere on here that says it is dyno tested but idk the truth behind it. Hope that helps...

So if you get a CAI and there's no intake resonator would that increase your chances of water entering your engine?

I've read that you need to be in 4 ft of standing water for this to actually happen but I gotta ask lol

You will need to remove the air filter and resonator assembly in order to install a Cold Air Intake. The chance on ingesting water is pretty remote, you can get a sock/or Hydro Shield just in case. http://www.racinglab.com/injen-hydro...re-filter.html

Remove the stock intake resonator should in theory increase power and there is less restriction on airflow. However, the result will not be as great compare to a CAI setup as it will not be drawing cold air from below (away from hot engine bay). Also, some members found the sound to be a bit too loud and/or annoying after a while with just the resonator removed.

I don't really find the noise too much, if you drive the car casually you don't even notice the difference. You only hear it whenever you really step on it. Even considering designing my own down leg for a custom CAI.... hmmmm

Yeah, you can really hear it right at 5 seconds! I love the M/T feels more like I am in control rather than being just another driver.

Oh, are you AT defcon? How does the sound compare to MT? Could you please post a video if you haven't already done so?

I can't wait to get my CU2.. This just gets me more excited!

That clip sounds pretty good. I did not remove my resonator but I did remove the plastic coupler that connects the air filter box to the resonator, and the sound I get is a little less "powerful" than the one in the clip.

My car is AT... I'll see if I can get a video up so that we can compare and contrast the different intake sounds.

Edit: btw, where did you mount your camera? It doesn't seem like you're holding it (how could you shift?), yet the camera seems to not be in a static location, either.

What are the chances of water getting into your filter after the removal of the intake resonator? I live in Buffalo, NY and the snow here gets ridiculous in the winter. Will the harsh weather affect my car w/o an intake resonator?

its less likely than with a cai. even with a cai, unless your driving through some serious standing water you're not likely to have a problem. if you do drive through standing water and you get stuck, just turn the car off and you'll be fine.

Thanks. I think I'm going to remove the intake resonator shortly after I get my sports bumper.
