Rear reflector LED mod (video)

I did this over the weekend. What do you guys think?? All i did was dremil out a slot thats about a quater of an inch wide and I slid in the led strip, wired it up with some resistors and diodes for dual purpose use (parking light and brake light).

On my led reflectors, the leds have trouble shining through the reflector. It really cuts down the light trying to go through it. From far away mine arent very visible, and I'm going to be re doing them in the near future. I'm thinking something like red tinted plexiglass so I can get more light through. Are yours bright enough to see at all during the day? What leds did you use?

My leds are decently bright. They arent over powering but definatly noticeable. here are the strips i bought
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-3020-SMD...ht_3576wt_1344
All i did was remove the waterproof silicone covering and they slipped right in. Ill explain in my write up. Im happy with these lights.

BTW, red leds dont put out a lot of light naturally. Since the plastic on the reflector is already red, you can use white leds since the are naturally way brighter then red leds. I used red leds on my refectors.

I first tried it with white leds, but it sort of dulled the red and gave almost an amber color. I'm going to be fixing mine in the near future because I'm not really happy with the light output. They are really only visible when it is completely dark outside. I might try out one of the led strips, but I'd want the leds to be really dense so I might chop it up.

I was going to mention the color change. They also have warm white leds strips. They are about 4500K instead of that 7000K super white led that personally hurt my eyes and will make the red look like amber.
These small leds dont make that much light, Its because these leds are so small, they dont produce a boat load of light.
If you end up using the leds i used, atleast they arent expensive. Its worth a try.

I am thinking about the 5050 smd led, either using a dense strip or buying them individually and making my own like I have for mine currently. The 5050 is the type that's used in my led switchbacks. You can see the white leds on those really well even during the day. If the reflector still cuts too much light out Ill be trying plexiglass+red tint.

I have mine as back foglights. This is a daytime shot, good visible at day. A friend made the LED work, dont know what type of stripes he took!
