Light flywheel

Hello,

Does anyone know if a lightened flywheel is available for the I4 k24z3 engine? There is a "ghost" flywheel on the net for a year now, the Exedy HCF001, but it is nowhere to be found.

I remember there was a thread in here saying a light flywheel does not work on the k24z3 engine, might this be the cause?

I would pair it with the UR pulleys, so I'd have even bigger chances of it not working if the engine is sensitive.

Thanks.

I wouldn't get underdrive pulleys because they put extra strain on the alternator, lots of people have been complaining about them across multiple platforms and it is typically not recommended for DD vehicles.

what kind of clutch/flywheel setup is the stock system?

is it an unsprung clutch system? like my TL?
dual mass flywheel?

if the answer to these questions are yes. then thats why there isnt an option yet.

Edit**

6-speed manual;
Single disk, dry-style diaphragm spring clutch

so, never mind to my logic.

You can use the same clutch flywheel that the SI and RSX uses. I've been holding out on this until I crack the transmission and engine apart.

I already have the pulleys for about a year and a half now. I did have some issues with the belt but it's fixed now. Also with alternator bearings, but I'm not sure it's related

optimusaccord, how sure are you about it? And do you have some part numbers? Anyone tried it before, the fitment is bolt-on or needs adjustments?

I ask this because as I said there was a thread here by tsxronald who said that lightweight flywheels do not work on k24z3. I'm also in need of clutch kit change, so this would come in a good moment.

see if the clutch disc matches with the part numbers on the current si, then you'll be good to go

So the current 2012 SI has a lighter flywheel than the 09+ TSX?

The part numbers do not seem to match up, the SI has 22200-RX0-005 for the clutch disk and 22100-RX0-005 for the flywheel. 22200-R40-003 and 22100-R40-003 for the TSX.

If you read up on the k20 forum or others, the k24 can work with the k20 flywheels, but you have to utilize the clutch kit that fits the k20 flywheel.

As for why tsxronald had issues, I'm not sure, I would look into installation. I've used LW flywheels on my prelude and my turbo 98 accord, and never had an issue. He used a very light flywheel, and had issues, but then he went to the dc5 type R flywheel which is lighter than the k24z3 flywheel, and had success with that. Just thoughts.

Use the dc5 type R flywheel, with a heavier clutch material could work out really well for us. When I get ready to put the car under the knife I'll weigh options after I pick out the limited slip unit so I can do everything at once.

Thank you for your answer.

What LSD do you have in mind? Is it 'plug and play'?

I'm looking at either the mfactory of the oem SI LSD. For our cars you have to get the 10 bolt ring gear off of the SI though, ours is this funky 14 bolt ring gear.

I'll let you know in a few months, I've been holding out for the S/C, and now it seems that turbo is just over the horizon.... I'd rather have turbo to be honest with you.

I'll talk to a few shops and get the prices for pulling my tranny apart and doing the lsd install. Then, whichever is more cost effective, I'll go with them. After it works, I'll give you guy's a parts list.
