Passport 8500 hardwire install

After searching through some old threads, I decided to go with a Blendmount kit. I ordered their mirror tap power cord as well. The install could not have been much easier than it was. It took me at most 30 minutes, and a good 15 minutes of that was just adjusting the mount so it sat where I wanted it to.

The mirror tap has a small fuse inline and was a breeze to use. Just unplug the mirror connection, insert the taps into the 1st and second wires (as you look at the back from left to right), and zip-tie them down.

Anyway, here are the photos.....

I did the same thing with a V1 and Blendmount as well. Blend mount is great and so is the V1, I have had this setup for almost 7 years. I guess that is a testament to V1 durability and reliability as I have only gotten 2 tickets in that amount of time, One was by aircraft and the other was because I had the damn thing turned off so I got screwed. Not to mention their customer service is great, I never had a problem but wanted to send it in for a software update, but they advised I did not need to.

Are these detectors really effective? I used one years ago (early 2000s) and I saw the speedtrap before the detector did.

radar detector is only as effective as the cops shooting if the cop is an idiot and sits in the road with his radar on you will see radar long long before you see him. laser your screwed if he hits you with instant on. install looks cool wish i could do this with mine but have to pull down it gets to hot and goes retarded its a bit old now so heat makes it unhappy. anyone have any problems with 8500 and windshield wipers being on and going crazy noticed mine the other day wasn't happy but like i said its old and due for an upgrade.

Great looking install. I'm currently researching detectors and will definitely duplicate this mount option should I decide that a detector is for me & my 2011 TSX Navi.

Curious, itrhybrid, you live just north of me (I'm in Portland). Has a detector saved your ass much in the NW? Ive heard conflicting stories from people, and working in public safety, the cops are always telling me a) they dont work if you get lazered and b) you're more apt to get a ticket if you're pulled over for speeding and they see your detector.

Thoughts?

If someone hits you with instant on, then you're toast and there's nothing you can do about it. My detector has saved me on multiple occasions however. I've picked up radar with ample warning and the times I've been hit by laser, I was not going that fast, but still allowed me to slow down a bit.

I have a blendmount for escort detectors and a mirrortap as well for sale. Brand new, unopened. They sent me 2 of each for some reason haha. Let me know if you are looking for this set up. Just installed it myself and I love it, super clean.

LASER is tag and bag....1 way signal....the minute it detects LASER the officer already has your speed....the only way to go about it is a LASER scrambler....

other than that, this is a great product for RADAR and red light camera detection....
