I-009: Any way to get video to run on tech pkg?
Check out avelectronic.com or email Sam- sales@avelectronic.com I was just emailing him about the exact same thing.. he was telling me that they should be coming out with a digital mobile tv tuner next month. You will be able to watch tv,dvd, have ipod interface and backup camera all on your stock navi. Im holding out for that. Its all pug and play too.

I think figured out how to do this without spending $300+. It really doesn't seem hard to do, I just need some help finding connectors.
The output of the nav system to the screen is RGB w/a combined sync signal so my plan is to start with a laptop with VGA output. VGA is an RGB signal but has separate channels for the horizontal and vertical sync. To go from VGA to RGBS, you need to go from 6 wires (R,G,B,HS,VS,Gnd) down to 5 wires (R,G,B,S,Gnd) but splicing HS and VS together will not work.
I think there are two options to get the right signal- first is to buy a pre-made convertor, the second is to wire your own. The cheapest convertor I have found on eBay is $35 and it requires 5 V power, which would be a pain to provide, but definitely feasible. For the second option, I found this circuit diagram which is really simple and could be built for pennies, but I have no clue if it would work. Either way, the signal processing seems easy to do.

The problem I have is tapping into the car. I know where the connectors are and I have the pinouts showing the locations of R, G, B, S, and GND.
The easy connector to find is the one going into the back of the nav unit- it is a JAE MX34 series 32 pin connector. There are a handful of suppliers who will sell them individually. It is really accessible in the trunk, but I don't want to run a cable all the way up to the front of the car.

The next connector in the harness is right above the shin of the front seat passenger (underneath the kick plate). It's easy to get to as well and would be preferable to tap into since it is already up front. All I know is that it is a 34 pin connection. I have pictures of the connector, can anyone find a manufacturer or part #s? I have no intention of cutting wires on the OEM harness, so I am looking for the actual connectors. I'm willing to swap information on where to buy them for a pin-out of both the front and rear connectors.

Thanks,
