Double DIN stereo install in Tech model

Hi all folks,

I am currently based in Melbourne, Australia and bought a 2013-14 Accord Euro Luxi Navi (same as Acura TSX Tech) last week. One ugly thing that needs to go is the sound system to bring it up to date.

I have set my eyes on a Kenwood Double DIN Android Auto/Apple Carplay model and wondering how to get it installed. I have 2 questions in my mind currently.

1. Which console fascia to get to retain the HVAC temperature display LCD in center console ? Or any alternate ideas to move it around somehow.

2. Secondly, if there is a way to re-use that screen on top, or put a new screen in its place to use for navigation or video playback, etc.

Not sure if I am asking a lot.
Thanks in advance.

Quick question, if I decide to rip out all of the center console (except the HVAC controls) and install a Double DIN Kenwood unit in its place, can I expect to get my new unit and HVAC working ?
I am happy to let the current display sleep until I find its use later.

Please advise.

Once the factory sub display is removed. There will be no visual info for the HVAC system. It is my understanding the HVAC will work without the sub display. To the best of my knowledge, there is zero aftermarket support for the tech package model. Very little for the base model.

It would be annoying, but I can live without HVAC display.
As long as I can control the HVAC, I would be happy.

Having said that, just needed to ask explicitly, that the HVAC control unit is not connected to the 6CD Changer/Media Unit installed at the bottom of the console?
I want to see it gone too, and possibly replace it with a storage cubby to pull USB cables and store phones etc.

So a couple of days back, with the help of a friend, we managed to pull the dash trim out, and remove/disconnect the factory stereo control unit as well as the HVAC display LED.
And to my happiness, the HVAC controls worked fine, and the A/C/Heating operated fine, obviously without that temperature display LED.

So the plan is to push ahead with this install over the weekend.

Glad to hear that, post some pics of the process or a DIY. Thanks.

Will try to do it, however, I may go to a professional installer, as I am not very experienced at running cables. We need running cables to the back of the car for the new Amplifier and reverse camera installation.
I will also using this opportunity to get rid of the factory reverse camera and install a higher resolution Kenwood reverse camera.

Just curious, how did this go? I did a double din Kenwood unit on my base model TSX and it was a pretty straight ahead install and I was able to retain climate controls on the dash screen.

Sorry my notification emails were turned off, so didn't get notified of your post here.

I got this done a few months back.
We have removed the controls and HVAC LED display, so I can't see the current status of the HVAC unit. However, I am not fussed by it.

What I gain in its place, is the Kenwood Double DIN unit with Android Auto + Apple CarPlay, and improved sound quality.
I couldn't take any pictures of the process, as I got a professional installer to do the job for me.

I will try and share some images of the finished product below, if that interests some. The end product is pretty similar to what you would get in a non Tech TSX model.

Since I didnt remove the CD stacker, the top screen still comes on at engine start, and then switches off after 5 seconds or so. Plus the factory and aftermarket reverse cams work at the same. Meaning 2 pictures on 2 screens.

God damn... I had pretty much put off any after market head unit ideas seeing as how the tech package makes it ridiculously hard.... but this looks amazing...

Hands free calling on the phone and all that work ok? can you "hey siri"? Are you just connecting via bluetooth or are you using that USB plug in the center console?

I also thought there were some headunits out there that also could display temperature controls but maybe I'm mistaken

Yes, hands-free calling, Android Auto, Apple Carplay, voice commands, etc all work as intended. I use a cable, when using Android Auto. Bluetooth works fine for calling etc..

Nothing to it really if you have the time to put it in. I put mine in about a 1.5 years ago and was the best thing I did but the only problem is that the dash kit kind of sucks...not very many options out there for our cars.

Yes there is, and it does not get any better than the fact it is an OEM part.

Yeah I have the same one and the brackets supplied with it are junk. I've been meaning to re-install the factory brackets and remove those flimsy ones that come with that particular dash kit. It's my weakest link in my system right now and it's bugging me...

No you don't!
The picture I posted is a Honda Factory Bezel made for aftermarket radio! You will need to purchase the Factory Bezel & the two factory brackets. When you get them throw the complete metra kit you have in the recycle bin.

Thank you for the info but it says part not found when I click on it. I don't have a problem with the Metra bezel for now to be honest but I just need to secure the radio better with the factory brackets.

Thanks for the info much appreciated. I'm going to try to mount it this weekend with the existing Metra bezel using the factory brackets if I can. I will report back.
