Double DIN is complex in the TL. If you have nav, it causes all sorts of issues as many functions are tied to the stock radio. Non-navi is easier. Mostly remove and replace, but the hard part is fabbing a plate to fill the holes, especially where the factory knobs stick out into the trim. Couple people have done it. I think it looks kinds goofy myself, unless you're talking a non navi double din. I guess the real question is what are your goals in replacing the stock unit? There might be an easier way.

one of the tl's im looking at is non-navi, thats the one id replace the stock oem head unit.

i just figured it would look nicer. buttons and knobs < touch screen double-din

id be pulling it out of my old car and figured it would be an easy swap as long as i dont lose anything from the oem by replacing it

It'll work. Just be prepared for the custom trim plate and filling the holes of the knobs.

The only other issue you might have is the wireing harness. I dont think they make a specific radio harness for our cars. I have a Pioneer AVIC-D3 that i want to install but not sure im going to wire it up . I dont want to cut the stock radio plug off either .

It will be anything but an easy swap! You really have to have an extraordinary reason to make the change. Then you need either a lot of money or skills.

FWIW if you want a fancier system on your non-navi car I'd seriously look at this.

Much better result than shoehorning a double din in the dash imho.
