If i end up pulling the trigger on a used TSX that I have had my eye on, I will be doing this mod. I love the look of the TSX more than most of the newer sedans on the market. I do not like the lack of tech, but installing a new pioneer head unit will help.

I was looking into some CarPlay since it's annoying to tether my internet to my iPad. Any reason why you went with pioneer instead of the other aftermarket brands?

Great article, very informative! I have a question about the center console USB and Aux port did you rewire them to work with your head unit or just left them alone? I had seen the aftermarket USB extension and aux port cable combos you can buy...
What steering wheel control interfaces,do you guys use? Do you have a brand reccomendation? I have seen the PAC,AXXCESS and the iDATA models I am just wondering what would be the best one?

Thanks guys for sharing good stuff, it is really helpful! I finished installation of NEX8100 last week and it came out all good. Able to hook up all the necessary wires including VSS and got steering wheel buttons working as well. Enjoyed this whole DIY. I will post some pics when I get a chance.

Here is some stuff that I got, it might help Joecool and others.

For usb cables, I bought 2 of these
Usb cable Usb cable

For HDMI -
HDMI HDMI

These are long enough to run them in center console where existing usb and aux cable is.

I did not wire Aux, as its of no use to me. Never used it. If you think you gone use it you can buy an extension from amazon. The one pioneer included, dont think long enough to reach till center console.

For steering wheel control interface, I tried axxcess first, it worked fine for a day but soon ran into issues where it stopped working intermittently. I suspect, issue was not only with axxcess but also with TSX lousy battery. If voltage drops below 10volts sometime axxcess would stop working immediately after cranking. Anyways I changed it with idata MAESTRO SW. It has been a week and working just fine. Got all the buttons working.

For front facia I went with OEM, got a good deal fromn jp-carparts. If you are willing to spend little more for OEM fitment, you can search for below parts on their site.

>> 【 part_number_2 】 77255-TL0-J01ZA
>> 【 part_name_2 】 PANEL COMP., CENTER *NH525L*

>> 【 part_number_3 】 77256-TL0-J01
>> 【 part_name_3 】 BRACKET COMP.,R.

>> 【 part_number_4 】 77256-TL0-J11
>> 【 part_name_4 】 BRACKET COMP.,L.

Fitment is OEM and looks good. Will post some snaps.

I also bought backup camera and RCA video extension cable.

Backup cam Backup cam

RCA cable with reverse signal trigger RCA cable with reverse signal trigger

already ran wires from back of the stereo to trunk wasnt that difficult. Still waiting on backup cam. It has been almost a month since I ordered Well it is coming from China so expected.

I see no one used VSS (speed pulse) wire. It is needed not only for dead reckoning but also for ASL. I dont care about dead reckoning but ASL. TSX interior is by no means quite so ASL helps to overcome road/wind noise and it works! If anyone interested -

Speed Sense blue ac back-up sensor system option conn above dr kick, wht 4 pin plug, pin 1

It is a lonely unused 4 pin connector. If you duck under steering column, it is on the right side kick panel, above fuse box. I will update a snap soon. Initially I thought of going with a can-vss module as my search on an internet related to tsx-vss wire yield no useful results. Thanks to Autotoys as they provided above information.

I will update this topic with some snaps and location of VSS wire

Really thankful to #172CR, bagwell, anjayk and everyone who shared all valuable information, otherwise it would have been difficult.

Thank you for the information about the interfaces and the links to the websites! I am willing to spend a little extra for OE fit and finish! I am looking forward to the snaps. Let us know how the back-up camera works out for you!

Sorry little late but here are some pics.

Here is my handy dandy connector for Reverse, Handbreak, Vss and Bluetooth wire so that whole thing becomes plug and play. I re-purposed USB extension provided by pioneer since I bought already 2 separate USB extension cables from Amazon.

Please pardon me as my car is still dirty after all that installation mess. I need to spend some time to clean but yeah after I install my backup camera. I received backup camera yesterday I will post some pics later. Life is little busy but I will update this forum as and when I get time.

Also I forgot to include trim ring. If you are going with OEM bezel you will need this

This is the one that you get from Chinese market I guess. Only issue you have is your front vents wouldn't feet properly and they have only one screw where as OEM one has two. I bought this one too from aliexpress and it came broken so settled it on partial refund since it came from china and returned would be costly.

Oh ok,The install kit I am looking at comes from the European market,I can only guess...I am in Egypt right now,so all I can do is hunt for components and make wishlists,LOL! So far I am going to go with MB Quart speakers(had them in my Audi!) I like them. Amps I am still looking around,I might run a 4 channel and a mono for a sub or a single 5 channel,I have not decided yet. I am going to install a center speaker and run a mini amp to power it,but I have to find one that is bridgeable. When I had my Audi it had a dash speaker but I wired it to the left side of the wiring harness. I was running a 4 channel Amp so the speaker outputs were free,I did not want to do the bridge for fear of damaging my head unit.

I am going to use these for speaker mounts, I am going to fill the open areas in the back with resin to give them some stiffning. In my Audi I had cut out the speaker cores and modified them to fit the 6.5's. I want to keep the stock speakers intact. There is still so much I am looking in to at the moment.I cant wait till I am able to start working on her!

Hey I am kind of a noob at car wiring headunits. But I seem easy enough to do it by myself instead of going out and spending hundred of dollar to paid someone to do it. I know how to solider and splice wires.
I was wondering if anyone can help me out by telling how to wire the wiring harness(70-1730) to the headunit (Pioneer 4100NEX) and also wiring schematic would be a huge help.
Here all the parts I have so far:
-Wiring Harness -70-1730
-Antenna Adapter-40HD-HD10
-Dash Kit -95-7805Ch
-Backup Camera -EC170-25
-Steering Wheel Controls -Maestro SW
-HeadUnit -Pioneer AVH 4100NEX

Acura TSX (premium) 2013
Thank alot in advance!

That would be an impressive setup. You can share your progress, it would be an interesting DIY for sure.

Yes the blue wire on the antenna adapter connects to the blue system control wire. Your ground is good to go!

Do the bracket assemblies on your head unit come in contact with metal?
if not I would run a ground from head unit to chassis. If they do contact metal than disregard,lol....

this is why I wish they came with metal brackets. But they are almost always plastic

In reading Ksawant's thread, he appears to do a great job in documenting the installation of a new HU in a Base TSX. With the removal of the OEM HU, what happens to the small LED display? With the OEM system, I assuming that it displays various radio functions, however, with the aftermarket HU, does it perform any useful functions? With some of the newer HU, they seemed to offer more features than the OEM Tech package, but it would be sad to see the LED display doing nothing. Any of you with aftermarket HU's might be able to respond.

Thanks.

I have a 2012 TL with Navi....they are pretty much the same, yes?
I have a few questions for you since you've done this.

Did you use factory GPS antenna? is it possible to use the factory antenna?
How did you get your climate temp to display on upper screen? I have the fear of losing that with my new install

As you can see in his pics above, the screen will still show climate control info in the bottom row, but that's all. Everything else, clock, compass, and audio info will no longer go to that screen.

I'm so lost

so I may sound really stupid with all this stuff....
i have a 2009 Acura TSX and I'm trying to install the Pioneer AppRadio4 and I'm having trouble with wiring.

i took out the stock radio and unhooked it and when I grabbed my aftermarket system, I realized that my wiring may be somewhat off. Idk where to connect the green wire, idk which rca cables go to what, there's a white rca cable stand alone and idk where that goes, my car seems to not have a radio antenna cable and there's a lot of cables that seem to be unplugged

im trying I really am lol also can't seem to figure out the steering wheel controls with the swi cp5

please helpppp😩😩😩

If I remember correctly green wire usually is for video on your aftermarket unit. You're supposed to wire this to your parking so video only plays in park, but most people just combine it with grd wire so that you can watch video while driving. The radio antenna is there, it's a small square looking one, if you didn't buy an adapter you will need one. IDK about your RCA cable though, Im just recalling off the top of my head.
