Changing 2009 Nav screen for 2010 screen

I finally got around to change my 2009 nav screen for the 2010 one. I know some of you are wondering why the heck would I do that....well the 2010 one doesn't have that clear plastic on it the creates so much glare. It annoyed me enough that I found a used one for cheap and changed it out.

It was a simple change. I used a suction cup to pull the screen straight out of the opening. There are only two plugs on the back and they were all the same. Plug and play. Just thought some of you would like to know.

I would really like to see if the newer 2011 VGA screen would fit, but I haven't seen any yet that can be had for cheap.

use a plastic knife at the upper left or right corner to loosen the screen.
it's done very easily.

I just found one on ebay. Someone from overseas was selling it. Yes, it just comes out with a good yank. I tried the pry method but I didn't have the right tool to get in there and pull. It doesn't really work well if you only have one tool to pry with. The dash ends up deforming if you try to leverage it out. That's why I ended up using a large suction cup and pulling straight out instead.

The 2009 screen has a clear plastic cover like the speedo cluster does that angled upward towards the top. It creates a really bad glare from the sun reflecting off the dash. They fixed it in 2010 and later by making the plastic cover on the screen flat up against it instead. Anyone with a 2009 nav knows what I'm talking about.

On a side note, I think the 2009 screen is slightly better. I first noticed this on a loaner car, but the screen graphics seem just a tad bit rougher and not quite as bright on the 2010. I dunno, it could just be me...but I could see the difference on two other cars. ???

Funny, I noticed the same thing on a few loaners I've had and thought it was just me and my eyes deceiving me. I looks kinda 'cheap.'

Yea I notice the "glare" too on super sunny days. I remember seeing and probably saving somewhere, a TSB about it in which they just put some sort of mat or thing right in front of the screen which dulls out the reflective effect of the sun. It's probably in the TSB section of AZ too.
