Exclamation Please Read

You are greedy and selfish.

So am I.

We all come to this site and enjoy it freely, never sending Astro a check or giving any money to Internet Brands.

You have a computer/phone that you read the site on. You have $20 in your pocket. You have your health and a roof over your head.

Once a year, though, we have a chance to NOT be selfish.

Once a year AZine asks you to toss some spare change into a hat for sick kids who are in the hospital and will not get any toys for Christmas.

I said SICK KIDS IN THE HOSPITAL who will NOT GET TOYS for Christmas.

I mean, they already feel like shit because they are in the hospital, and the thought of not getting a toy for Christmas must just break their hearts. Their parents are spending all their money on the hospital bills not knowing if the kids are going to make it.

YOU have the chance to give that child a smile and a toy. Think of how happy that kid will be when he or she opens the wrapping paper and sees what YOU gave him or her!

This charity gives 100% of the donations to the kids. NO admin fees, no 80 cents on the dollar.

If you have already given, thank you.

If you have not, please look into your heart and your wallet and give $5 or $10 or $20.

You are the ONLY way these kids are getting a single toy for Christmas.

Thanks.

56 people have viewed this thread and not a SINGLE one has replied that they are donating...

If $10 or $20 means that much to you, you should sell your computer and use the cash to buy food. Seriously.

If you are just lazy, then I can send an angry monkey to your house to motivate you.

The thread title is please read, that's what people have done.

Please keep in mind that many people, not just those that use this website, give money, sometimes significant quantities, to charity - maybe just not this one specifically.

Yeah, exactly.

Also, if the delivery of the message is negative, insulting and challenging, I tend to just skip right by...

The message is "help kids who are less fortunate AND sick in the hospital"

Feel free to skip by the message if you like.

You think the Salvation Army volunteer standing out in the cold ringing their bell outside the front of the store you are about to walk into is going to recieve any donations if they say to the people walking up to them "you are greedy and selfish"? I highly doubt it.

I donate to many causes and charities throughout the year, volunteer at my church, donate my time to help whenever I can, and go a little above and beyond what I normally do the rest of the year during the Christmas season. But because of your negative and forceful demeanor, I will not donate anything to this charity. I might have considered otherwise had you conducted yourself like a normal adult.

To the rest of those that are in charge of this charity, I'm sorry. But you may want to reconsider next year whom you let represent you. Trying to make people feel guilty is not a smart way to get people to dig down into their pockets and donate.

I don't think "you are greedy and selfish" is a good way to start *any* conversation, let alone one where you are trying to call someone to action.

Your a clown stogie1020. I agree with DarwoodEE on this one. You have no idea who donates what to who and to be forceful with your cause only promotes the opposite of what you are trying to achieve. Sure your at 60% + but had you been a little more tactful with your request you could have been at 120% +.

Too bad this isn't the wild wild west, your strong arm tactics might have worked.

I for one hate when all these charities come up around Christmas and try to make you feel bad about having more of what others don't have. Thanks to marketing Christmas is already a stressful time of year without having you come on to the forum and pull on peoples strings.

I'm even more disgusted that the moderators would allow this to be posted here in such a fashion at this time of year.

Does this thread disgust you that much? I know there are different ways to get a point across but I honestly don't know why you are disgusted that we would allow this?

Yeah, come on guys, he's doing a GOOD thing. Maybe the approach isn't your cup of tea and that's fine. Just don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Not everyone has been as .... sensitive .... to the message as some of you.

Things have been heating up the past day or two. LOTS of new and additional donations.

So, please, consider donating. If you can't or won't, that's your choice, but there's no need to "bash" the thread.

Considering the time of year and the fact that there are already families who stress out to the point of suicide because they can't provide what they feel they should be able to provide for their own families, yes I am disgusted that you (moderators) would not have taken the time to discuss an edited version of his post.

FiftyFive, your right in that there are many ways to get a point across and so maybe stogie's tactic "worked"...but another tactic could have worked even better. Obviously we will never know for sure but honestly by reading stogies post I felt like my beloved acurazine forum was mad at me or something and in that moment I DID NOT want to donate. Either way I have my own charities I donate to, so good luck guys with yours. Merry Christmas all!

I don't see where in stogie's post he is expecting a family that is in need themselves, to donate to the cause. He's simply trying to get the point across that many of us are more fortunate than others and to share a bit our own wealth with others. Nobody is forcing you to donate if you do not wish to and we certainly aren't expecting people to donate and we will not hold it against you if you don't.

Stogie isn't a mod and didn't create the thread(s) to come of as sponsored or endorsed by AZ. He is entitled to share his opinion and viewpoint as anyone else. He chose to take it upon himself to want to try to make a difference and he has. If we were to censor his post, where do we draw the line? Shall we also censor your post for expressing disgust at a thread that was trying to raise money for needy children?

My personal belief is that stogie has made an impact in this year's charity drive and I commend him for trying.
