Plastidip silver satin mirrors

I have wanted to wrap my mirrors in silver to match the roof rails and be a bit like Audi's S/RS cars or Volvo's R-Design cars:

on this:

I never got anywhere with wrap places since it is such a tiny job for them to do, and they would really have to have the vinyl on hand so that I don't order a whole roll for two silly mirror caps. Then I looked up dipyourcar.com I got a bottle of prep spray (unnecessary for such a small job), two cans of silver metalizer plastidip aerosol, and one can of satin finish spray.

It arrived today, so I just taped off the car and applied the first coat.

after the first coat

I'm typing as the first coat dries, but so far so good. I'll keep you posted.

In that case, the RS6 is the one that is much much much much much faster. I can still dream of my wagon with a supercharged V6, SH-AWD, and 6MT.

I had an S6 wagon. Great car and quite reliable but maintenance costs were obscene. Sold it at 100k miles when the CPO warranty ended. I get just as many compliments on my TSX wagon as I got with the S6.

This thread would be infinitely more useful if you had waited to post it when you have finished painting it...............

A shot from a distance is the main thing I want to see.

Well, opboarding, I just applied the first coat of satinizer. I think I did 4 coats of silver and then will do two coats of satin. It could turn out that I should have done gloss instead to match the roof rails better, but I can always just order a can of gloss, peel this off, and do it over. I'm liking plastidip so far.

Before I take it outside for a picture with a real camera, I thought I'd continue the garage shot with the same phone camera.

why the heck not? I still have most of the first can left. I have a feeling this is going to look a bit much, but we'll see.

i think the mirrors work because the car has lots of silver satin from the factory.

the rear middle piece might be a bit too much!

The rear valence/diffuser area is done, and I am undecided. From some angles, I like it. From others, it's rice. The fact is that the mirrors are subtle because of the smaller size. This is just a larger piece making it more obvious.

I like both the mirrors and rear diffuser. I think both flow very well.

Since I went from darker blue to silver, I didn't add HP so much as I added lightness.

Glad that most people are liking it. I'm still not sure on the rear, but I'll leave it like this for a while to see if it grows on me more. Whenever I had mentioned doing this in other posts, it seemed to not be well received, so it's good to see that once done, it looks better to at least some people. I wish I had searched out the metallic dip spray much sooner. Now I want a paint booth to dip my whole Odyssey just because.

Don't forget to include the windows

The mirrors look great but I agree that the rear bumper needs to grow on you. In general, manufacturers do the black lower cladding to make the car look lower - you don't need that but there might be just too much silver.

Maybe somebody could photoshop this leaving the ridge silver but the rest black - or vortex blue. The silver "stripe might just add just enough to add interest but not overwhelm like the silver seems to do now - although it is growing on me - somewhat like the faux skidplates on an allroad.

Faux skidplates is what it reminds me of. Similar to the kit you could get on the Volvo S60 as well. For the rear, I thought the same thing but don't know how well this would translate.

Volvo entire rear in silver:

I'm not 100% a fan of the mirror caps. It doesn't look bad and it seems to blend well with the wheels and rack, but I think I prefer them blue.

Was pretty sure the rear would look wrong and the in process shots seemed bad... But in the full reveal, I really like that back bumper trim in silver.

As a package, I think it all works but I could go either way on the mirrors.

Nice work! Silver really compliments the blue. Not sure how well that would work on the other paint codes but you're pulling it off just fine.

I think it works well with darker colors.

My S6 was silver and the mirror caps just blended right in. A buddy had a red S6 and that looked nice.

Blue and gray wagons look a bit monochrome but the addition of a bit of silver adds just a bit of visual "something". I think it looks odd on white.

Agreed. It basically works on anything but silver and white.

i would've ordered the brush aluminum wrap and done it that way, but this isn't terrible either.

I knew Justin was wrong.

Honestly think the silver roof rails really make it flow to the back end. Definitely looks good man, I would keep!

This was definitely an option as well. It is super cheap and plenty of material for the job. I really wasn't sure about it because the mirror has such a difficult shape to cover. I also wasn't sure about the real color on "satin white aluminum". But for anybody else looking at this and considering, this is also an option.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/5ft-x-2ft-3M-1080-Scotchprint-S120-SATIN-WHITE-ALUMINUM-Vinyl-Car-Wrap-Film-/151416619171?hash=item23412240a3&vxp=mtr
I was also spurred from a friend who had recently bought a plastidip sprayer from dipyourcar.com to shoot his whole car, so I looked at the site and finally pulled the trigger.
