Looking to upgrade from a 96 2.5TL

Currently own a 1996 2.5 TL. Got me through high school and college. Time to get a new car.

I have never driven in a TSX and I have been looking around for either a TL or a TSX. Can anyone tell me the advantages of getting an 09 TSX over one of the first generations?

I can get an 09 with a lil more mileage than an 04-08 for roughly the same price. The only thing i know i like about the 09 better is the dash board. I really dislike the 04-08 without the navi. To me it looks cheap and like my friends ford focus.

Also did the TSX basically replace the 5 cylinder TL's?

Hmmmm.... what are you looking for in a car?

my sister owned an 08 tsx and i have an 09 and having driven both i can say that in my personal opinion the 08 feels a little more at home on the road than the 2g does but on the flipside the 2g 09 i own feels a lot more opulent and in general i have enjoyed this car very very much over the 2 years or so its been in my care

im sure someone would be happy to chime in with an itemized list but it really will come to your preference in the end. Congrats in advance on the upgrade! You really cant go wrong with either of these fantastic cars

I want to keep my 2.5 tl but the cost to fix it isnt worth it. The TSX just seems like its the closest i can get to it. Other than getting another TL, but i dont need a V6. And generally same mileage and year the TSX is cheaper than a TL.

I have read that the 1st gen has a sportier feel. But i am not sure how to interpret that. Does it drive similar at all to the TL's. I am asking this cus I have started looking around and I really like this 09 TSX but i dont know enough about them to go ahead and pull the trigger. Nor do I want to waste my time driving all over test driving cars. Im hoping i can narrow my search a lil more.

I have been very pleased with my 06 tsx so I would recommend it. It now has almost 120,000 problem free miles.

Here's my opinion. I had a 93 Accord and put 364,000 miles on that car. Loved it, hated to get rid of it. I bought a 2010 TSX-Tech 6-speed. It reminded me the most of the Accord in size, frugality, and "fun" My best friend has a 2007 TSX Auto. These are two totally different vehicles. The 2007 in my opinion, is a LOT more fun to drive. Even being an auto. It's a bit lighter, it's more tossable, and feels a lot smaller. Now to my 2010. It's a lot quieter, it's a bit more comfortable, it's still kinda fun to drive, but I do NOT like the electric power steering. I think it's a bit wandry on the highway. it's actually noticeable. I also think Honda/Acura needs to work on the stereo so that the amp doesn't keep blowing out the speakers. Not to mention the replacement speakers are not the same as the originals and therfore, not the same sound I purchased this car with. It's really disappointing.

Don't get me wrong I do love the car, it's just the little things that are annoying.

No offense to the 2nd gen owners here, but...... go for a low mileage 08. You won't regret it for a second!

I have the 2010 TSX and I agree with this ^

It drives more sporty than a 2nd gen. I also feel like it's easier to get into the back seat.. if that's a factor for you. It's less difficult for me to get a car seat into the 1st gen than my own vehicle.

I also agree with this. I have an '09 6MT TSX and once my lease is up, I'll be giving serious consideration to a used '08 TSX.

Ok I have an update.

I found out to totally fix my 96 tl it will be 2k+. It is def time to part ways.
I went to the acura dealership where i live in Baton Rouge, LA. I drove an 08 tl w/o navi and a 10 TSX with navi. Now I dont have the money to afford the 10 TSX, but I loved it. It is def more closer in size to my 96 2.5TL. I just feel the selection here is real small. I have never bought from a dealer before, but can i get some kind of warranty from other dealerships? If I buy a used Acura from a Honda, Ford, or Lexus dealership?

Try to look for 2009 version, the production date started in March 2008 till July 2009, may have better luck finding a used one that you like.

Regardless it's an 09 or 10, as long as it's not totalled/writeoff, the manufacturer warranty of 4yrs/50K miles applies-(a Certified Pre-Owned one is only available from an Acura dealer and comes with some extra warranty but will generally cost more).

You should check the vehicle record to ensure it's properly maintained. Also, if you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time, then buy the extended warranty from Acura before the initial 4yrs/50K warranty period expires (especially if you are getting the Tech model- GPS and ELS sound systems cost over $5K to replace) , check around as dealers do give discount on them too.

Or drive 07-08 TSX. It's a firmer/more solid feeling car than 09+. Still can have navi/bluetooth/xm radio and the k24 205hp motor which is really more like 220hp per vtec.nets dynos of the car. It responds great to mods as well. Can be had for under $20k.
