For any of you with M/T I was having the classic 3rd gear "catch" problem (You would think it's in, let out the clutch, grind then realize is wasn't all the way in and then use more force to get it in place). Would happen about 2/10 times while shifting from 2nd to 3rd, enough to notice every time you drove the car. Took it to the stealership and got the upgraded synchromesh fluid and it seems to be transitioning between gears flawlessly now. It's been about 3 days now and no problems.

Thought I would share. YAY to not ripping out my transmission!!

was just gonna say that justin was the one who chimed in on the 3rd gear grinding. happened a lot over in the 3g TL side. after they figured it out justin came rushing to the 2g tsx side to warn us all. justin is azine's hero.

Is this covered by warranty? I was at the dealer 1000 miles ago for A1 service and they "suggested" changing the fluid (assholes, I bought the car CPO from them 4000 miles ago). I turned it down, no problems with the tranny other than the occasional third gear issue you described.

I then proceed to go into a safer location to stop.

It was the synchromesh. But honestly, that fluid shouldn't wear out for like 150,000 mi. Mt tranny is completely different than auto. The fluid is merely a lubricant unlike the auto that uses the fluid as a viscous clutch. It's not abused and is a completely isolated system. Oh well, it doesn't make sense. Glad it was only the fluid though.

To whoever asked, it wasn't covered under warranty. I tried to argue, but it was a lost cause, kinda like the brakes going bad after 15,000 mi.
