2012 TSX Base - Any bugs yet?
2012 TSX Base - Any bugs yet?
Hi everyone,
I am thinking of trading in my 2010 V6 for a 2012 L4, partly due to fuel economy concerns. Looked at other alternatives but I will stick with the TSX as it's a good compromise price/size/performance/fuel economy/looks.
I had my share of rattles and other minor annoying issues, which I managed to fix most of them on my 2010 V6.
I am wondering if the 2012 has any systemic problems that are showing up, and what are they...?
Thanks for your thoughts.

I just bought a '12 base TSX only a week ago and have read this 2 gen forum back 15 pages to before the '12 models came out. There have been no wide spread problems reported. Mine has been perfect, though it only has 700 miles on it. I am a little concerned about potential problems resulting from earthquake/tsunami/Thai flooding damage to supplier factories. This doesn't seem to yet be a problem either.
I haven't driven a V6 TSX yet so I can't comment on the handling aspects, but I would be very leery about trading one in for a 4 cyl if this is strictly for the fuel economy...I do 80-90% city driving and don't abuse the throttle at all, and yet my MPG is nothing stellar, especially in the winter (of course). For example, I am only averaging 21.7 MPG right now. In the warmer months I can push this to 23-24 but then when the A/C needs to be on full blast, this figure drops and the lack of power in the lower end can be a bit annoying at times.
Don't get me wrong, the 4 cyl is no slouch and I have no real complaints about it and pf course I can get really good MPGs when I am taking trips and doing all highway driving, but...I have to be honest, I probably would be a little happier overall with the extra oomph of the V6, and it doesn't seem as if I would notice much of an MPG difference either.

Yeah i hear ya... You guys are right. Fuel economy is not the main reason: I need to dispose of that car because of some financing / lien issues that I don't want to get in here. So once i determined that ai have to sell it, i am debating whether I go get a Lexus, infinity or Acura.
Lexus is too much money for the one I really want (GS350) and the IS 250 AWD is too small and also way too much $$$. Never liked the infinity.
The TSX is still the car that appeals to me... I love the V6 power, but now they only sell V6 Tech here in Canada, and I don't want a GPS in my car and dn't want to pay for the Tech premium.... Hence the candidte: 2012 Base (Premium in Canada, since we are suckers and get scammed as usual).....
I'll report back once i pull the trigger - likely in a couple of months.

You may want to look at a 11 TSX, the dealer will give you significant discount to get it off their lot. Our Canadian list price is still out of whack compare to the US, there's room for negotiation with the dealer.
If you can drive a stick (6MT), you can get more power out of an I4.
