Maybe he has a potentially good deal on that size? Like take offs from a 3rd gen or something?

Anyways, the largest width you can do is about a P235/45R17. However, if you have the TL Type S rims you can NOT do that tire size safely as the width of a TL-S rim of 6.5 inches is not wide enough to support a tire size of P235/45R17.

You would have to at least have a rim with the width of 7 inches to make it work. The CL Type S is a 7 inch wide rim and that would work for you if you find a set. Another option is if you get a set of 3rd Gen TL wheels but those have a tendency to stick out just a little bit from the fender. Hope that helps!

IMO, go 225 MAX on TL-S rims...any wider won't look good, can be unsafe, and won't necessarily give you better handling. I have 225s on my CL-S rims and they still stick out a little past the rim face, so 225 on 6.5" wide will stick out even more.

Yeah definitely a bad idea. Stick to the stock 215/50 R17 size if you can. Even 225/45 R17 is not the best for a 6.5 inch rim. It will only throw off your speedo by 1 mph, but it's recommended to be mounted on a 7"+ rim.

DEFINITELY no rubbing especially at stock height. But as I said, the tire sidewalls won't be flush with the rim face, they will stick out. Good for protection against curb rash, but some people don't like the look. Also, wider isn't always better because having too wide of a tire may decrease the contact patch because it flares out.

Very good info AMGala. Thanks. My 215/50/R17 tires have another 6 mos. max then I have to put new ones on. The ride is a lil bumpy and has road noise right now. I guess that dues to the fact that the tires are getting bald.
