I would recommend to anyone with over 75,000 miles on their car, especially a TL, that they switch to a high mileage oil. Whether you use synthetic or non-synthetic, a high mileage oil will protect your engine a little better, which is useful, especially if you like to drive with a heavy foot sometimes.

Hope this helps!

It is not needed. Just keep using a "quality" oil and you will be fine.

Why "Especially" the TL???? A high mileage oil wont protect the motor any better, especially if there is nothing wrong. Come look at my motor sitting on my garage floor. 210k on it, 15k change intervals not a drop ever burned, the original cross hatching is still visible. The TL motor is built with very close tolerances and doesnt need any thing special for oil.

Your friend should consider himself lucky. When my tranny went, Burrard Acura in Vancouver quoted me $4700.00 CND!

My 1999 TL has 265k Miles. Runs great. tranny pauses between reverse and drive sparatically.

Whats this about the 1999 4 speeds, are they supposed to last longer? I thought all the trannys were hopeless...

I was told it is the 5sp trannies that have the issue.

Good to note your motor can go 265. I've told my wife I want us to drive this until 300k.

I have 95,000K on my 99TL. Tranny (original) still works perfect. My 91 accord EX had 304,000 miles on it when I bought the Acura. That's a 4 cylinder that was never rebuilt and still ran strong at that mileage. I would hope the TL's motor would last as long if proper maint. is done.

I have a 99 TL I bought new, which now has 95,000 miles on it. Based on lots of reading on acurazine, it looks like my car is out of warranty based on the age being over 7 years/9mo...even though the milage is under.

I just had the timing belt replaced last week, and did DIY for front engine mount, wiper slapping, front/rear rotors and pads, brake bleeding, and transmission fluid change.

Now I am paranoid my transmission will go out after spending lots of $$$ on the TL last week. So far, the trans is great....but just in case...has anyone had much experience with out of warranty trans replacements on a 99?

If I am reading this right, some folks in this thread may have been in this situation....

Tommy99TL said "105K mi. on my 99 TL.
It is still in the Acura service for transmission replace since yesterday."

NSXNEXT said "117000+ on a 99TL - getting a new tranny this week."

RugRat said "99-TL. Just bought from a friend at 167,000 with new tranny at 150,000."

Any experiences out there?

Just curious? What did you pay for the Timing Belt Replacement. what type of garage did it? I'm about to have mine done.
