What the heck happened to my TL this morning..
:Sigh:
Well guys this morning when I got in my 02 TL-S to drive to work it starting acting very strange. The first problem I experinced was putting the car in reverse. When I put it in reverse the car jumped foward Not due to acceleration, but what seemed like a very hard shift from the tranny
It backed up from the drive way fine... Putting it into D5, the car did the same thing again just like when I put it in reverse but not as hard...
Now driving off became another issue..
The car accelerated much slower than it usually does, and when it was ready to hit the next gear (3rd I believe) the RPMs went nuts and the car began jerking back and forth.
I didnt even make it to the end of the block before I pulled over and shut the car off. I waited about two minutes, turned it on.. reved the engine a bit and it drove perfect
The only thing that it continues to do is the foward movement when going into D5 or reverse, MUCH more lighter though. It drives and shifts PERFECT now. Throttle response is 100%
Anyways, what the heck is going on? Is my tranny about to die?

yes it is
the reverse prob is from high line pressure- and rpm increase makes it worse as car tries to shift into selected gear
then it finally slams into R
Im not sure which shafts share gears, but D5 and R would not surprise me--so you feel it at both ends of the shaft-as it were
the free revving is clutches not hooking up--the stumble is torque convertor probably clogged--thats the common failure
How does the fluid look and smell
ever change it?
Now for the fix !
do you qualify for the 7 year+9 month/109kmiles-court case ordered trans warranty?
or 114.5 for cars in the odometer error court case VIN range
Even if past limits, there is Goodwill assistance `in some cases`
usa car? clear title? not salvage-rebuilt from crash car?
current miles?
history of ANY service at dealer-oil changes- brakes- anything at all
family bought this car or 5 cars from acura---brand loyalty goes a long way

the ecu picked up the revving as an engine overrev and has limited rpm to protect the engine--its called Limp Mode and is so you can get off the freeway or wherever you are stuck and towed to dealer
pull the CLOCK fuse on passenger end of dash-that resets ecu and may go back to operational for now
thats the weird thing-works perfect one day- dies the next-comes back for another few days...trying to give you false hope
with rebuilt title you are SOL on warranty, so its off to the local rebuilder shop
should run 1500-2500 average--all depends on how many burnt up parts are inside
The shop cant tell until trans is taken apart
If you give your location someone may have suggestion for a shop
Or look at top of azine pages-see REGIONS- then look in your area- its for making gatherings/meets of local ziners, but you can ask for a referral there too

Well I just finished resetting my ECU, the car went back to driving perfect...
I am starting to think this isn't a transmission issue but rather something else.
Why did the transmission work perfectly after I shut the car on/off after the first time it happened to me ??

How many miles on the car? Replacing the trans filter is the first thing you want to do. that hard shift and high rev, indicates lack of lubrication. Replacing the trans filter is an easy thing to do.

How easy is it to replace the transmission filter?

Oh, nvm, it says you have to disassemble the tranny...

working messed up one day and perfect the next is what the trans does on its way out,,,keep driving it--may be days or months
Its worth trying an external filter change--if the clutches are going, they are loading all the passageways and internal tq filters with their particulate matter = wont shift
Now you know to let it rest 15-30 minutes and reset ecu if needed- to get off freeway when stuck --after trans dies
It didnt rev wildly, have difficulty into reverse and D5, and refuse to move forward at a speed relative to the rpm,,,,because it needs a coil~
Hows the fluid look and smell?

After futher analyzing the car, nothing was ever wrong with the transmission.
I thought the tranny had gone bad because since my car has been entering "limp mode" lately... it only reaches right below 3k RPMS not allowing the car to get past that RPMS to enter the next gear.
If I drive the car in SS while in "limp mode" I can easily shift into and out of any gear since I can manualy shift before hitting the 3k RPMs limit from "limp mode"
Now I am trying to figure out why my car is entering "limp mode" time to time.
I retrieve two CEL codes:
P1607 - ECM/PCM Internal Circuit Failure
The other code I totally forgot to write down, but I had to due with HO2S Heater something. I'll get the extact code later today.
Any more advice?

there are only a few things that make it leak trans fluid so thats not important right now
If it was leaking it would be only a few places,,and all are bad--actually a few qualify it for warranty~
The color and smell of the atf is important right now--reddish and atf smell =good
or darker and burnt sugar smell? that would be bad
You can have a bad sensor or a bad wire to a sensor- thats always possible and worth looking into
the ecu-pcm got replaced on certain VINS during warranty trans replacement,,some had to pay for it-- iirc-
I dont recall the years covered- 02 03 got it? ask the service manager or parts manager--parts dept knows these cars well,, since they order everything that goes on a job!
the ecu can pick up trans speed vs engine rpm and think there is a problem--it will throw a code for that and go to limp mode-~sometimes~
Mine had the overspeed code but tech knew it was trans because I wasnt in limp`
