Weird noise coming from the drivetrain
Hey guys,
I have a 2001 base TL. There seems to be a weird noise coming from the drivetrain. It like a whining noise like some gears are not lubricated well.
The pitch of the whine changes with speed; not with rpm, or gear. Its definately not from the tires because i still have stockers on them. It's really low, almost to a rumbling sound. It starts to be audible around 40 mph and gets louder and higher pitch as speed increases. Nothing like a sequential gear box or super charger type of high pitch whine. The car is almost stock with AEM CAI.
I thought it was the axles or maybe the differential area(inside the transmission). But i'm not sure about anything at this point. What do you guys think it is? Any mechs on this board?
If it IS coming from the tranny or the open diff in the tranny, would Acura cover it under their transmission warranty since it IS in the tranny and the car is below 100,000?

Try taking it to the dealer and see what they say. Otherwise I would recommend trying Lucas Transmission fix - this stuff is like snake oil - its works like nothing I've ever tried before. I would maybe drain your fluid (if the dealer is not willing to fix) and see if there are any metal shavings if not then refill with honda tranny fluid and the lucas transmission fix - it worked like a charm for me - no noise - smooth shifts.
