2000 TL Auto

Just today I've noticed a peculiar knocking sound (like rapping your knuckles on a plastic storage bin) coming from under the p/s front dash immediately on engine startup that lasts ~30seconds and then goes silent.

If I turn the car off and back on, the sound re-appears.

The HVAC system was not on and I popped the hood and saw nothing rubbing/loose near the firewall. Is there some kind of servo under there (HVAC?) that does an "auto-check" on startup that may be sticking or something?

 

Turned out to be the air circulator motor located in the P/S footwell. Seems the actuator arm was stuck and upon wiggling back/forth manually... no more noise .

Accordingto an Acura mechanic I spoke to afterwards.. a very common issue.

 

I am getting the same noise for 30+ seconds. If temperature is at 90 (all the way in the right) its not heard. At other temps, it lasts for 30 seconds when you start the car.

I looked under the passenger glove box and notice the slippage, but manually pushing it does not seem to help.

Can you describe how you exactly fixed it?

I just unplugged it and worked the arm back/forth with my hand thinking it may have have gotten stuck. Yours may be fubared and in need of replacement if that does not work.

 

i've just started having the same noises. this is a diy so i have to get on this immediately. thinking of sellin my 99tl because i want the 03tls. it has 191k and maintained very well...how much can i get 4 it?

 

r u talking about the wire plug that u unplugged. i see 2 of them but i think ur talking about something totally different that i dont see. can u describe what im lookin 4.thx
