Way to turn A/C off permanently using Auto Climate

Whenever I turn on the climate control it usually kicks in with the A/C for which I have to manually turn off the A/C using the A/C button.
Is there are way to run the climate control similar to other cars where you turn on the fan and if its too hot you just turn on the A/C?

Thanks for all the great info on this board.

Simply press Full Auto then press A/C to turn compressor off, the thermostst will then control fan speed only.

Yeah but I'm trying to find a way not have to turn off the A/C each time I turn on the climate control. I want to turn it off and make it stay off until I tell it otherwise.

just dont use full auto. If its not on full auto the AC is on only when you turn it on. and you have full control of the fan speed.

Is that right? I guess I'm a little too used to have a little green light come on whenever I turn on the AC.

so the compressor remains all all the time if u have the climate control on FULL AUTO??
or it goes on/off.....i doubt that cuz the temp remains constant in the cabin! so its gotta be on the whole time!! man..a lotta gas i say?

No, the AC compressor, or heat, come on when needed to maintain the temperature you set. That's the whole point of AUTO.

A/C compressors aren't using more than 5-7 HP anyway, so I wouldn't lose any sleep over whether you have it on or not. The benefit of a comfortable cockpit far outweighs the miniscule amount of power to be gained from having the compressor off.
If you were talking about a 125 HP 4-banger, it would be a different story...

Hey Maestro,
Then maybe you can you can answer this for me...the reason I want to turn it off is because I feel that I lose some power in my 02 TL (100k) when I have the A/C running. When it's off it just seems to me that my car accelerates smoother and shifts more consistenly. This is really only noticable in stop and go city driving.
Does that sound normal for a 3.2 V6?

My AC has seemed to stop working all together. I get on air at any temp. I'll be checking the fuse to see if it's that. But what else could it be?

No, that doesn't sound normal at all. I have an '02 as well, 120,000k and it still pulls like it did the first year I had it, and I'm running the A/C non-stop out here in sunny So Cal.

You might want to take it in and see if the A/C clutch is still working correctly and have them check all of your belts too.

My TL-P 02 with 75k miles do the same thing . Compressor of the A/C turn on/off too frequently and this will affect my acceleration .

Was hoping it wouldnt come to that. I'll drive it around a bit more to see how bad it really is. Hopefully its an easy fix (whatever it is)

Yes it is normal for the car to loose some of its pick up and power with the AC on. when the compressor cycles and engages it will cause you to loose some hp. Its most noticable in city driving and will reduce mileage.

If you dont need the AC on simply push the button to turn it off. there is no need to run the ac on all the time.

You answered my question in your first post. By not using full auto, the AC wont doesn't come on unless I turn it on. Appreciate that...thanks.

Well according to the thread the AC shouldn't come on at all in Auto unless you turn it on. So far this does seem to be the case. No AC cycling on Auto for me!

Rezn8 : no .. no ..no ...A/C will engage the compressor in AUTO if the temp that you set is lower then the outside temp.

Update : I recenly wash/clean my engine and feel my car lost a bit more of it pick up
when the A/C is on .........So I did put a few drop of engine oil at the
A/C compresor pulley to try to lubricate it and amazingly the car pick up smoothly
and drive a lot better when A/C is on .
