Tranny Problem

Has anyone on this site have this senero that I have. I have a 01 TL with 36K and my transmissions is starting to act up... I had the oil jet kit installed by the dealer about a year ago @ bout 20K. I noticed it rev out a little 1 day then 2 days later while on the highway it hesitated. Then it started to down shift a little rough when coming to a stop light. I let the car sit for a week drove it and it drives fine. I took it to the dealer to have it looked at and when they ran my VIN they said that they can't help me because the car has a salvage title. They supposedly fixed the tranny problem b4 and now they don't want to help. I now its not a result of the hit cause the car was repaired and drove for 5 years fine. Can any one suggest what to do I love the car but I will get rid of it if I have too..

the oil jet is for 1 of the problems the car has. It was a recall part which they had to put on. If you are having tranny problems your pretty much SOL because of it being a salvaged title. Car companies dont and have to warranty any thing because of that. Thats a down side to gettign a salvaged title car

Thanks for the input. But what other problems that you know of that this tranny has? Do you think its worth fixing? Because if there is a problem that could occur over and over, I would not want to invest the money to repair it only to have it happen again.

There are 2 problems. 1 was waht the oil jet kit was for. The other is the 3rd gear clutch packs. (that is the problem you along with most have/had.) The latest rebuilds from honda seem to have fixed it the problems.

The way to repair this would be to replace the transmission. Unfortunately, you cannot buy the corrected transmission from Acura yet so you would have to try and find a remanufactured one from an aftermarket company and see if they have update 3rd gear.

Tranny problem

It will start to slip no matter what. i had mines replaced a few months ago but it was under warranty. don't bother getting a new tranny, i drove around with the "broken" tranny for a while and it doens't affect you if you rev a lil higher and it will knock out the jolting problem. wait until it actually blows before you get a new one. I drove around it for about 2 years before realizing i had to bring it in after i came to this site. well hope this helps. good luck with your car

Why drive around with a tranny that could fail at any time and leave you stranded. If there are symptoms just bring it in.

Acura will not release any of the transmissions for sale yet. I assume that they are working on a supply and demand situation and they want to make sure they have them for warranty customers.

Howard's transmissions (I think out of CA) offers reman'd transmissions with a good warranty and the updated components (And no, I don't work or have any affiliations with Howard's) have just used their products before.

Just a quick FYI.. while I am not positive of the exact VIN's that are included in this, Honda recently posted a new bulletin saying that owners of most 2003 TL-S' and CL-S' are now eligible for tranny repair up until 109,000 miles instead of 100,000, as long as the purchase occurred after this past August.. I'll double check on all the facts but I know for sure they bumped it up to 109k now..
