Tranny fault light + no start?

Hey everyone,

Driving home today, my car was shifting very sloppy. I switched to the auto stick mode, and immediately I got a check engine light, TCS light, and flashing D5 light. I have read that the D5 indicates a transmission fault.

When I got home, I shifted the car into reverse, which was fine, and parked it.

Now,.. I immediately wanted to restart the car and see how it behaved, but it would not crank at all. This seems to indicate that there could be a problem other than the transmission(unless the battery AND transmission died at exactly the same time).

This was preceded by the SRS light coming on about 2 weeks ago, and a cop telling me I had a headlight out a week ago(headlight was not out when I put it back on,.. he said maybe it was electrical problems.. i wasnt sure if it was really out to begin with or if he was saying that for an excuse to check for hits on my registration and insurance...small town). not sure if either of these 2 problems could be related, but thought i'd mention them just incase.

my car is a 2000 with 112k on it

any thoughts? thanks in advance

quick update: i went back out and tried again(been about 30-40 min) and it started fine, maybe a little sluggish.

no flashing D5, but still check engine light. i didn't drive it but i put it into drive and it did shift

is there any way to do a key combination to pull codes without a scanner? i know most dodge's can do that...

It is prob the battery.. The battery can cause many other thing to malfunction!

thanks. i've been using the car a bit today and it seems fine. the check engine light is still on but it's shifting and starting just fine. i'll get it scanned(and battery checked) when i get a chance to get over to my mechanic and if anyone has any further insight in the meantime it's greatly appreciated.

yea i had the same issue with my car driving fine one min and than shut it off than it wouldnt start. it was my crank positioning sensor. i got it replace and the car drove fine for about a month than my 2 gear started slipping and not it doesnt start again. the same symptons happen when i tried starting it. i wonder if its the sensor again

Pull the clock backup fuse for a min and then see if the CEL comes back on. If it does Get the code read. All we are doing is guessing. Its free in most auto parts stores (unless you live in the great state of cali

Go to the DIY page and follow the instructions for the SRS as well. When that light is on NONE of your airbags will work in a accident. Reset the light. If that comes back on Bring it to the dealer. It needs to be repaired.

thanks fsttyms1.. i didnt realize the srs light meant that none of the airbags would work. yikes.

car went back to limping today on the way home(but was able to restart immediately after i shut down) so im probably gonna have it scanned tomorrow. time is the issue more than money but ill just have to work it out with the office.

Have your alternator tested. It may be dying and causing these issues as well
