Steering Rack and Squealing Noise
Steering Rack and Squealing Noise
Here's the scenario: When starting my '02 TL (cold) in the morning, I got this high pitched squealing noise that sounds like a slipping belt. Under the hood, it sounds to be coming from the wheel spinning the power steering belt.
Acura tech says I need to replace the steering rack, to the tune of $1100. He tops off the fluid, I say lets hold off on the work for now.
Since then fluid level hasn't dropped and no noise.
Auto has 62K original miles.
Questions: Can I get away without having the work done? If I have to have it done, can it be done cheaper?
Thanks,
e9
P.S. Other work done on this auto (bought new): replaced tranny, replaced idle air control valve - twice, replace front wheel bearing. Got a jammed CD player too. Has Acura quality plummeted, or is it just my auto?
