Steering rack replace

Can I get away with not having to remove the steering wheel if I'm careful to have everything all centered when installing the new rack? Any tips from the experts out there.

Thanks,
Iggy

you don't need to remove the steering wheel or anything to do with the steering column. the coupling should be keyed so it only goes on one way. Now you'll want to get the toe checked and steering wheel centered after you install the new rack, odds of getting the tie rods adjusted so the toe is right and the wheel is center is almost impossible since there are slight variations in the rack your removing and the one your installing.

Thanks guys. It seems the Type S racks are hard to find in my neck of the woods so it'll be a few days before I tackle this .

if rack is bad from fluid crud destroying seals- use seafoam and flush system a few times to prepare for new parts

www.seafoamsales.com tech section will have the procedure

Did you have to drop the subframe in order to get enough clearance to get the steering column off the pinion?
