Starter problem

Hey guys so just another post by me lately it's been one thing after another with this car, but this is something new I have never seen it do. So last night I went to the mall with my family I was there for maybe 2 hours and when I walked out to my car to leave I popped the trunk and noticed as I was putting my bags in the trunk the light went out. I just assumed the bulb went out then I hopped in the front seat and went to start the car and when I did it the lights came on on the speedometer and everything however it didn't turn over I watched the lights dim and slowly go off. I hopped out and when I did heard a whining noise coming from under my hood. When I got out and popped the hood the starter solenoid was spinning quickly and wouldn't stop. Has anyone ever heard of this? After about 5 minutes it finally stopped. But unfortunately the only reason it even stopped was because it drained my battery entirely. Shortly after I hooked up my jumper pack to it and as soon as I would touch the positive and negative terminals it would immediately start spinning again and my car still wouldn't turn over. im assuming I have to replace my starter but I'm not positive.

Sounds like you need a new battery but make sure the terminals are clean and tight before making the purchase.

I agree with Erick and that's where I would start.

^^^ Yeah, as these guys suggested......check all the wiring connections and grounds first.

Take the battery out and have it checked for free at any parts store. If the battery is still good and holds
a charge, then take the car and have the electrical system load tested. The alternator may be going bad ?
If everything all checks out, then the starter may be the culprit.

when you can get it to the parts store- the test they run will ck on starter amp draw
that will tell about its internal winding

low tech attempt to fix method- take hammer to starter solenoid,, a few times ~gently~
see if its hung up in the starter gear
Or remove starter and take solenoid off it-
ck teeth of starter gear and teeth on flywheel for damage that will catch starter teeth and not let it loose!

You can ck flywheel thru the inspection cover on bottom of engine/trans mating.
2, 10mm bolts hold cover on
