slight knocking with a beat to it in motor...

did the searched but came out nothing....well I recently changed my oil almost a month ago using royal purple oil on my tl for the first time...my car just sits in the garaged only driving her once or twice a week...and just today i went to get some dinner came back home and i noticed a slight knocking noise as i parked my car in my garage...opened the hood but couldnt find where that knocking noise is coming from...I use 92 octane gas...so im clueless to on what it may be...any ideas where I can pin point this problem...oh i forgot to mention the low gas indicator in lite even at 1/4 tank...

mine was making the noise between the engine and tranny.. so i dropped my oil pan and measured the gap between the connecting rods and the crank and it was perfect.. my conclusion was the main bearing wasent getting the proper lubrication. in the manual it states for us not to let the car idle for long periods of time, probibally because the oil pump is not pumping as much at idle. and its the same as the non type s pump wigh different internals and lubricating needs.

First, does it go away when driving? Is it heard more inside the car than outside?

Oh and to wilp99 my car idles ALL day and never had/has a problem. over 200k on the motor when swapped. These cars will idle no problem

I know what you are talking about. Like a ticking that goes in sync with the motor, and when I drive its gone. I believe its the purge solenoid. Is that the right name for it? Mine does it too.

mine was more of a slight knocking noise. i could hear it plainly with a screw driver to my ear between the trans and engine. but like i said it went away after i changed oils.

Mine was the AC idler/tensioner pulley unit ~$80 local parts store for assembly complete

A semi rhythmic beat you can dance too, but not a perfect beat like valves would have.

The old hose in the ear, or buy a $5 mechanics stethascope to pinpoint noise

I would best describe the failing tensioner pulley beat as close to Techno
It goes along and then does some skipping beats
Its obvious when you listen with a screwdriver or stethascope- its the REALLLLY bad noise
When I pulled into the shop parking lot, the tech came out and said
Oh you must be for the pulley~

You can change it yourself but I like the skin on my hands
Book time 1.5 hours
