shifting hard
shifting hard
i drove my car for about 8 miles yesterday before i parked in the mall parking lot to see a movie. after the movie as i was leaving i noticed when in D5 it would suddenly drop RPMs and shift up when normally it wouldnt even go into that gear when im driving that slow with low rpms. so i left the parking lot and it was doing it again and getting to fourth gear quickly and roughly. the rpms did not shoot up, but down. i put the car in D4 the rest of the way after i came to a stoplight and it stopped. what?
Usually I hear of the rpms shooting up but not down.
What year and miles are you?
Do you know of the tranny history?
Any additives added to the tranny you know of?
When was the last fluid change?
Someone here ought to be able to help.

you said last fluid change was 109 and now there are 700 more miles on it
so the last owner got a warranty trans from acura a year ago??
You can verify that at acura care 1-800-382-2238x5
It may still have warranty coverage on the trans itself
and it had a trans service of some sort done before sale--correct?
any way to contact the seller and get a receipt??
If shop used dex3 they owe you a trans-
sounds like a torque convertor prob but never heard of these exact symptoms before

that should be ok then- they dont keep the wrong stuff on the premises~
but there may be a prob inside the trans
if trans was replaced a year ago it was likely on a full or partial Goodwill from acura - past the age limit of 7 years plus 9 months, in that case the customer pays some of the cost and can buy a 3/36 warranty for $300
Otherwise it has a 12/10 or 12/12 warranty on the rebuilt trans
the dealer service manager can look in the computor and tell you

Try driving around in D4 for a few days and see if it still happens. Using D5 for just driving around town can drive you crazy with all the shifting it does. I only use D5 for interstate or freeway driving...like above 60mph. Many on here do the same. If you have a real trans problem, it will still shift poorly in D4. If it does fine in D4, you should be okay.

I asked the local Acura dealer about the transmission replacement and they told me that the prev owners took it by there but declined service. so that put me in investigator mode. i went by the dealer i bought it from and called the prev owners and they said they took it to a transmission shop not far from where i live and had it rebuilt. i will go by there tomorrow since the manager was out and computers were down to see exactly what they did and what sort of warranty was in place and if it applies to me, the subsequent owner.
i know i have read something about some kind of kevlar something or another in rebuilt transmissions and with this knew knowledge i have now i would like to know what this kevlar rebuild thing is and what i should look out for in this rebuilt transmission....?!?!!
oh and by the way i asked my friend who drives his gf's 2006 accord about my shifting weird and he said her accord does the same thing...so im not too worried about it as of now but thanks for everyones help cause apparently through finding out the fix for the shifting i can find out exactly whats goin on with this tranny once and for all.

yeah accord, odyssey, tl are all interchangeable. they all used the same trans. and with the kevlar ive heard of some ppl getting theirs rebuilt with different clutch packs i think and not the oem packs. it was in a thread buried deep up in here somewhere. search for "rebuilt".
this car is full of inferior parts that we all like to get rid of and get the good stuff put in.

its needs to go to that rebuilder then
Dont say anything about car was sold- many warranties end there
If you have the past owner name-- call and use it--bring `moms car` in because its shifting funny~
Or just drop by
A small shop will remember the car,,trans has their marks on it to prove they did the work and a referance number and not question you
not everyone knows how to get goodwill at the dealer--get quoted 4000 dollars and acura loses a sale on their own rebuilt units to an outside shop
Make sure it stilll has the external oil jet kit installed
kevlar in the clutch disc is good

Most tranny shop will lie through their teeth and say "oh yeah we will rebuild it better than OEM and we only use Honda ATF".
dropped by the transmission shop where the work was done and i'm pretty sure they would know i wasn't the son or whatever of the previous owners cause i'm a different skin color but they said the warranty was done when she traded it in to the dealer i bought it from. i asked about the kevlar clutch kit and they said they used to upgraded top honda kit that honda gave them and when i asked about the external oil jet they didn't say anything about having it. then they said they used dex3 atf with an additive that makes it like the honda atf.
so at least i should probably drain out the atf and put in all pure honda atf...?
i just hope these guys used real nice upgraded parts and their work lasts for another 90,000 miles.

actually i take back what i said about not knowing what i was looking for cause now thanks to you i do know and if i could i'd buy ya a case of beer haha
get rid of that dex3 fluid NOW
do a full `acura flush` using manual drain and refills~ its going to take 15 qts to actually get the old stuff out--holds 7.3...
dont drive more than 5 minutes with use of each gear up and down a few times in the neighborhood between drains
You want to move fluid thru- not mix fluids together- that defeats the whole purpose of the flush
