I have an '02 TL-S.

When I start the car in the morning I put it in reverse and then into D5. Reverse is fine, but when I put it in D5 it stays in place like it's in neutral. Then I put it into the other gears and it still doesn't move, I have to put it into 1-2 and once it shifts into 1-2, I put it back in D5 and the car starts to move.

Sometimes it does move in D5 from when I start the car but then it switches into neutral within 10 seconds and then I put it into 1-2 and back into D5 and it works.

I checked the tranmission failure thread, but I'm not sure if this is the problem.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

 

most likely you need a trans. its slipping out of gear. does it bang into gear once you have it in D5 and your accelerating?

 

It doesn't it just drives like normal once it starts working in D5.

If it's the transmission, I'll probably just buy a new car, but I'm hoping it's something cheap to fix.

 

You definitely need a new transmission.
