Power Steering hose
Power Steering hose
So now that the ice storm is done in Fort Worth I have been left with a leaking high pressure power steering hose. How much psi runs through that hose? Also, I've heard it's about a 2 or 3 hour job. Is it something that one person can tackle?
Yeah it's the hose itself. It is in the last piece of hose right before the metal tubing that plugs in to the top of the pump. With my mileage, I'm not surprised. I also have a little leak from the rack too so I am thinking about just replacing both, but I am thinking that is going to be a tough job. I was asking about the psi because I have heard of silicone adhesives that can fix hoses. I was thinking of trying this until I can get both the rack and the hose as they are a little pricey. Plus it's time for new outer tie rods and upper control arms.
This may sound crazy but I tried ATP-205 and it stopped the leak, of course it all depends on how bad the leak is.
Might as well replace both hose and rack.
Here a video if you decide to tackle this job, its from an Accord V6 so its identical.

Awesome, thanks for the video. Is ATP-205 about the same as the Lucas Stop Leak? With 251K on the car, I started leaking at the same time from both the rack and that hose. Maybe the rack seals can be resealed, but I'm not very familiar with that. My thinking is that if it lasted this long it may just be worth it to go ahead and replace both but I have to admit I am a little nervous about tackling that rack...
If ya got fluid leaking at both the top and bottom.....ya really want to watch the PS fluid's level closely. First off, clean everything up the best that ya can. Then try to isolate the actual source of the worse leak. For now, replace the top line if you're absolutely sure that it's bad. As for the bottom, clean and check all of the rack's line connections before assuming that the rack itself is bad. That's an expensive and big job to undertake, so eliminate other possible leak sources first.
If you're leaking a substantial amount of fluid, the pump and rack both will be stressed and eventually fail. Try Rockauto for good pricing on the PS lines. If in a hurry, try your local auto parts store or even a salvage yard.

The high pressure hose is under 3000psi if remember iirc I suggest replacing it asap.
