P1739 (3rd cluch switch) an P0400

Well my engine light just came on again yesterday on my 99 TL. This is rediculous. Everytime I get it off it pops right back on after a couple of months with something new. This time I'm getting a P1739 and a P0400 which I've had before. So there's two parts to the question:

I've done a searce on P1739 and only 4 threads popped up and only two had replies but really didn't answer my specifics. Can someone tell me where the 3rd gear switch is located and how much the part cost and if I can do it myself? I'm scared to death that I'm going to have to replace my tranny. I have 109,xxx miles on it and I tool it in to the dealer at about 99,500 miles and told them my car was shifting funny yet they said that there was no problem. 10,000 miles later and it's still there and now I'm throwing a code. Will acura cover the cost if I took it to them?

Next: The P0400 has to do with the catlytic converter but I was throwing that code about 3 months ago and had the converter replaced with an aftermarket. Could it be gone again? I posted another thread two weeks ago saying that it seemed like my care was running a little rich and there was quite a bit of carbon on my tailpipes and my RPMs would fluctuate when idle and I had noticeable vibration in my steering wheel. What do you think. I need some help badly cause this is my only vehicle and my wife and I share it.

Come to think about it. I don't know what a P0400 code is. I think I was throwing a P0401. Can someone tell me what this is. I don't see it on the search.

Ok, i just had it scanned again and my notes were wrong from yesterday. The code that is being thrown is not P0400 but P0420 which IS that catalytic converter which I had changed about a month or so ago. I have no clue why that code is coming up again. I am still getting the P1739 though.

Cheap cat wont do do it for your TL must replace with factory. Thats most likely why the code is back.
As far as the P1739 replacing the 3rd gear pressure switch wont do any good.
99% of the time it results in transmission failure.
With 109,000 miles I'd seek goodwill assistance from the factory.

considering you have it documented that you brought it into acura for erratic shifting before the warranty was up i would argue that it was a pre-existing condition and you want it covered. they may cover all of it, or some of it, but some is better than none.

I agree. Id bring it in for the tranny related item.

Also lot of times you may get a code for the cat being bad and it may infact be the O2 sensors. Have they ever been replaced? Also what type of aftermarket cat did you get? that may be causing it if its like a e-bay special

I got the Cat replaced at a muffler shop and I think they used a magnaflow. My o2 censor hasn't been changed and I'm wondering is that the reason for my eratic change in RPM's while idol and the fact that my car seems to be running rich?

fsttyms1, how do you feel about the 3rd gear. is it worth changing it or am I looking at a new tranny? Can I ride a month like that?

FYI, I just called the Acura dealership where I have it serviced and where I bought it and I told the guy the issue and that I have 109,XXX and he told me to bring it in and that Acura would probably cover the whole thing since I have 109,000 miles. Holpefully this guy knows what he's talking about. I asked specifically if he thought they would cover the whole cost and he said that he beleived that they would.

like said before id bring it in for the tranny. see what they say. Since you brought it in previously for a issue it should be on record, and they should cover it if it needs to be replaced. the selonoid is probably plugged with clutchpack debris and i dont thnk its worth replacing odds are the tranny isnt far behind
