One Headlight Was Out, than turned back On
Hey guys. This is what happened to me Saturday night as I was cruising up to the club. I noticed one of my headlights was not lit!!! I was freaking out because usually the Xenon bulbs will turn an ugly yellowish color before completely going out. I flipped the lights off and than back on, and amazingly the headlight was on again! Hahahaha good thing because I was sure not about to drive to DC with one headlight and get a ticket. So far I haven't had any further problems with that headlight. Has this happen to anyone before??
Actually this could be a bulb that is reaching end-of-life, or this could be a ballast problem. If the ballast doesn't regulate the amount of electricity the bulb is getting perfectly, it can cause failure. These are sensitive things.
Realy , I thought the bulb changed to a yellowish color before dying out. Well, I've been driving around with one headlight the last couple nights. Waiting for my mechanic friend to check it out. Good thing I have bright fogs.
Well one HID light has an output greater than two stock halogens.
But it doesn't necessarily change colors before dying. However, I'm inclined to believe your problem is the ballast rather than the bulb. Your car can't be any older than 2002 and how many miles? It's a little early for a HID bulb unless it was just defective.
Edit: Will it not ignite at all now?
Try this, if you are inclined:
Take out the bulbs on both sides and swap them. If the one that's out works after that, it's the bulb. If not, it's the ballast.

It's probably a ballast problem. But you can't count out the bulb just because it hasn't turned yellow yet. If there's oil on the bulb, it can die before ever turning yellow. Turning yellow is merely a sign that it's getting old and losing its color. It's not necessary an always-true indication of a bulb dying out.

Had the same problem but it began happening more and more fequently.
If u haven't fixed it by now try this:
Pull the bulb out and check the contacts, if they're dirty use a piece of sand paper and flat head screwdriver to clean them off.
That did it for me, hope it helps U

This happened to me also.. when the bulb went out i would shut the lights off, then turn them back on.. but then it just all together stopped working.. took everything apart and found that the base of my bulb melted to the plug.. which obviously destroyed my blub and ignitor.. i have no idea how it happened. i replaced the bulb and ignitor and everything seems fine now.
