no brake lights, shift lock

no brake lights, shift lock

my shift lock isnt disengaging properly and my brake lights arent coming on when i apply the brakes. i called the dealer and spoke to an advisor and he said it was the brake switch.. has anyone had this go out on them?

the same problem for me started yesterday

i see a switch at the brake pedal. is that the reason for the problem? if so, where can i get that switch. right now i have to use the shift lock release with a screwdriver.

any advise? thanks

call local parts store and ask for "brake light or stoplight" switch....$20-60 depending on where ya look. shows $36 when i look at "my" estore.

local parts stores will have it- yes they fail on all types of cars-
stop using the brakes so much!!! and stop driving NOW!!!! with no brake lights!!!

Easy to install- a nut- a wire- adjust it back up- probably even in the gen2 DIY section

there is a reason its hard to drive off with no brake lights......they really discourage that!
For others in an emergency: your ignition key is designed to fit in the emergency release- remove cover- insert key straight down and push to unlock

I make sure to check all my brake lights often- was rear-ended twice in less than 2 weeks! And with all 6 brake light bulbs working, no less-

damn bro that hella sucks..im waiting to get rear-ended because the lot cant get me in til next week, so im thinking im just gunna drop off my car and get a loaner, dont wanna risk my car getting hit

Go to teh dealer and pick up the 25 dollar switch, crawl under the dash and in 5 min you can have the old out and the new in. Its very simple and many have had it go out.
